Man Of Steel 2 Is In The Works

You know, I've been telling you all for a long time that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was not Man of Steel 2.  Even when other sites were claiming it was, I reported them saying this, but explained that it had been announced last year by Warner Bros. that there was going to be an actual Man of Steel 2 they were working on releasing.  Then it got cut from their schedule of announced movies, and I began to feel like I'd been giving all of you bad information.  That was, until yesterday when it was revealed by The Wrap that the Man of Steel sequel is in active development!

Okay, now don't get too confused by this, "active development" means that they are focusing on getting this movie made, but that doesn't mean that they've released a date or announced a director for this film.  Heck, it doesn't even sound like they have a script for it yet.  What it means is Superman is a very important character to Warner Bros., and while he is very important to them, they want to make sure that they get their version of the Son of Krypton right for fans, something they haven't felt they've done.  This is similar to the Batman solo film (which is also in "active development") that Ben Affleck is working on.  While we know that he'll also be directing the movie, no release date has been announced for the film, because Affleck said that they won't start filming the movie until he's happy with the script/story.  He doesn't want to make a Batman movie just for the sake of making a Batman movie, he wants to make a great Batman movie.  That's reassuring to me.  So like Batman, Warner Bros. is taking all of the criticism that they received about Superman, and are trying to fix what they see as "issues"  with him, before they begin filming and announce a release date.  Hey, this is a smart move.  Instead of rushing movies into the theaters so they can finally compete with Marvel movies on the big screen, they are starting to think about what the fans actually want to see from their own superheroes, and are beginning to head in that direction.

Something else that could be working in Superman's favor for his sequel is that newly -appointed DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns will be having an active role in it's development.  Now I said that it "could be" working in his favor, doesn't mean that it's a given...I still remember Green Lantern, Johns!

We knew that at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice when Superman "died," he wouldn't be staying dead for very long.  His death, though, could not have happened at a better time.  This will give the studios the time that they need to figure out where they want to go with Kal-El, without having to worry about rushing him out into another movie before they do.  Maybe when they do rise him from the dead, he'll be a sunnier alien that isn't brooding so much.  We'll just have to wait and see.

So are you willing to give the Man of Steel sequel a chance, or were you too put off by him in the first film, and/or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
