WIll We Ever See A Season 3 Of Young Justice?

youngjustice

Season 2 of Young Justice is now on NetFlix, and with it's arrival comes the hope from it's legions of fans that we'll see a third season.  We're not the only ones that are hopeful, either.  The cartoon's showrunner, Brandon Vietti, is also hopeful for a third season, too.  He recently sat down with comicbook.com for an interview, and here's what he had to say on the matter:

"I don't know.  That's the best answer I can give you. I'd be happy to do another one; Greg [Weisman] would be; Phil Bourassa, the character designer. We'd all in a heartbeat come back to do a third season if the Powers-That-Be feel they want to do that.  I love that world. We were not done telling stories; we had tons of ideas for more seasons ready to go, so yeah, I'd love to get into it."

Young Justice ran on Cartoon Network for two seasons, and was cancelled back in 2013.  It was a new take on the younger heroes than previous shows like Teen Titans.  Even though they were teenagers, they acted as young adults, trying to come into their own and to prove to their mentors that they were not only capable of being heroes, but they were ready to be heroes, too.  The artwork was amazing, and the stories were fantastic, so when it was announced that it wouldn't be back for a third season, it left all of it's fans scratching their heads.

So what are your thoughts on the subject?  Would you like to see a third season of Young Justice, or has too much time gone by that you really couldn't care less?  Let me know your thoughts on the matter and leave them in the comments section below.

Rogue One Trailer Close To Being Released

REPORT: Rogue One Trailer Close to Airing — Tone is Dark

According to Jordan Maison, the Editor in Chief over at Cinelinx, Disney/Lucasfilm are close to releasing a trailer for the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.  The only thing we don't know is which one we'll see first.

Maison tweeted that there are at least two or three different trailers that have been put together, and Disney is just trying to decide what tone they want the first one to take.  The movie looks much darker than anything that we've seen in a Star Wars movie so far, and the trailer looks to take on that same tone.

The movie itself has been described as a "war movie" and a "heist film."  It will follow a group of X-Wing pilots that are sent on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.  It takes place in between Revnge of the Sith and A New Hope.  Don't expect many of the fighter pilots to survive, though.  As we know from the speech that was given in A New Hope, most of them die while stealing the plans.  It's also rumored that Darth Vader will have a much larger role in the film, and will be a lot more evil.  I mean a lot more evil, if the reports are true.  Here's some of what the article that I read by David Harris had to say:

"Reports from storyboards for some of Vader's battle scenes have the Sith Lord decapitating bodies, dismembering his foes by throwing his lightsaber at them, and levitating bodies up to make himself meat shields...Rogue One is setting up to be a Star Wars film like none we've ever seen before."

"Meat shields"?  That has to be one of the best descriptions I've ever seen written!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes out December 16, 2016.

When Should The New Star Trek Take Place?

title image What We Want To See In The New Star Trek TV Series

Coming off the heels of Star Trek's 50th anniversary will be a whole new television series for the franchise.  The pilot episode will air on CBS, but then you'll have to subscribe to CBS's streaming service, CBS All Access, to see all of the other episodes.  The question that people are asking, though, is just when will it take place?  We have all of the history of the other television shows to consider, like Star Trek (TOS), Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Enterprise.  Then we also have to consider the movies, including the most recent two that pretty much changed the entire history of the show.  So what should we expect?

This is a question that Screenrant.com recently asked, and they gave a pretty good answer on what they should do.  Their suggestion is to have the show take place after the distruction of Romulus, which took place in the 2009 movie Star Trek.  The reason why this would be a logical decision is so the new show won't interfere with the reboot movies, which can take place in an alternate timeline away from the "Prime Timeline," and it can still use the history of all of the previous shows.  It would also be smart for them to keep the television show and the movies separate so each can do their own thing, without worrying about how it would affect one another.

So what do you think about this idea?  I think they make a sound argument, but I want to know what you all think.  Leave your thoughts in the comments section down below, and tell me what you would like to see from the new series.

Bill Murray's Role In Zombieland Was Originally Much Different

Yesterday I told you that a possible sequel for Zombieland was still in the works, confirmed by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick at a Q & A that they were at.  But that wasn't the only interesting thing that they revealed about the zombie flick.  They said that Bill Murray wasn't their original choice for the role, and that when they did sign him for the movie, it had a much different take.  Here's what they had to say about the scene:

"It was a big action scene. It was all this stuff at the house, all the jokes about his career. But when he finally did show up, he just attacked the crap out of them. And he was the most devastatingly difficult zombie to destroy of all time."

I'm sorry, but I just can't picture Bill Murray as a crazed zombie attacking the crap out of everybody, especially after seeing him in the scenes that ended up in the final cut.  Reese and Wernick had sent their scripts out to different actors that they had wanted in their movie.  Their first choice had been Patrick Swayze, but due to his cancer, the actor was unavailable to work on anything, and they never even had a chance to send him a script.  Other actors that saw the screenplay didn't seem interested.  So when Bill Murray agreed to talk to them about the script, he offered up some changes to the scene, and they hashed out what we saw in the movie.  They said that they weren't sure if the other actors that read their screenplay just thought the scene was too violent, or wasn't big enough of a role.  If they had talked to the writers about the scene and let them know their concerns about the role, then we may have had a whole different cameo to watch.  Bill Murray being the amazing actor that he is, saw the script, and actually talked to the writers about his concerns, and it made the movie even better.  That is why Bill Murray is who he is...the best in the business!

Would you have liked to see a crazed zombie Bill Murray attacking everybody, or do you think that the movie turned out better the way it was released?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.  Oh, and if you haven't seen Zombieland yet, go out and buy it today.  You won't be disappointed!

Could We Still Get A Zombieland Sequel?

zombieland

I have to be honest, this is one of my all time favorite movies!  The funny thing is, when I first saw the trailer for this movie back in 2009 I had no desire to see it.  It wasn't until it came out on DVD and one of my friends told me that I needed to watch it that I did.  I ended up buying the DVD, then upgraded to BluRay a couple of years later.  I still watch it quite a bit, it's one of the few movies that I can watch over and over again without it getting old.  The characters are great, and the actors that play them were perfect choices.  The story and the humor are top notch, and I have to be honest, I hadn't seen a movie that compared to it until Deadpool came out a couple of weeks ago.  This shouldn't have surprised me, since Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were also the ones that wrote Zombieland.

After Zombieland grew to a "cult classic," rumors swirled around that there was going to be a sequel.  Instead, we got a cheap television pilot of the same name from Amazon Studios which never got picked up after it's debut.  So where does this leave the sequel that never happened?  Here's what Reese had to say about the matter while doing a Q & A with Cinemablend.com:

"It's actually still in development over at Sony.  They've had a couple of writers take a crack at it.  We're still exec producers and we're guiding and helping where we can.  I think there's still very much talk about it, but I think it has to be right.  I think all the actors and [original Zombieland director] Reuben [Fleischer] all feel like there's no reason to do it again if we're not getting it exactly right."

So if the writers can't get a good script put together, then no sequel.  I'm hoping they do, because I'd love to see everybody come back for another go around to try and find some Twinkies!

"Old Man Logan" Theme Confirmed For Wolverine 3

There have been a lot of rumors that have been running around concerning Hugh Jackman's last outing as Wolverine, but now DenofGeek.com has confirmed two things about the film Wolverine 3 (working title).  The first thing is that 20th Century Fox is shooting for an R-rating (thank you, Deadpool!)  The second thing is that it will be loosely based on the fan favorite Old Man Logan comic book story.

First, let's talk about the R-rating.  Look, I understand that Deadpool is doing great at the box office, and since this is his first stand alone movie that they've done for him, giving it an R-rating makes sense.  You start the series off on an R-rating, then audiences will know what to expect in future projects for the character.  The problem with Wolverine going this route is that the first two movies that they've done for him have been PG-13.  It has an audience that is younger than Deadpool audience, and watching him in all of his stand-alone movies and X-Men films, they won't be able to go see him for his last time around.  For this reason alone, I think it's a bad idea.  Having said that, I can't wait to see a Wolverine movie where he finally goes completely berserk!

Now, about the Old Man Logan story.  Whaaa...???  I don't understand how they are claiming to make an Old Man Logan movie since over half of the characters in the book belong to other movie companies.  Let's go down the list...The Hulk (plus his offspring), Hawkeye, Red Skull, Spider-Man (okay, Spider-Man's daughter) just to name a few.  Then there's the fact that in the book, Wolverine kills all of the X-Men when Mysterio messes with his head (another Spider-Man character, by the way).  How will that affect the X-Men franchise's timeline?  Not that the X-Men cinematic universe timeline has ever been consistent or made sense, but still, this is a valid point.  The closest thing that they will be able to do is have it take place in a dystopian future, he has to make his way across the country on some sort of quest to save his family, and then seeks revenge after they get killed.  Really.  That's the most we can expect from this film as far as the Old Man Logan story goes.  It's kind of like Wold War Z.  It was "based" on a novel, but the only thing that it had in common with the book was the title.

Regardless of how they do this, I am looking forward to seeing this movie.  It's looking to be the truest form of Wolverine that this company has made.  For that reason alone, this is a "must see."

So Who Is Peter Quill's Father? Here's One Fan's Thoughts On The Matter...

Guaridans of the Galaxy 2

I know, I already used this picture once this week, but I really like it, especially the little baby Groot standing on Drax's shoulder.  But that's not what this is going to be about.  Instead, I wanted to throw out this theory on who Peter Quill's father is going to be in the the sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.  I'm not sure who the idea first came from, but I thought that it was interesting enough to mention it.  If it turns out that this actually happens, it will seriously shake things up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
We've already been told that Thanos won't be appearing in any more films until Avengers: Infinity Wars 1 & 2 come out, but what if what of his family members makes an appearance?  I mean, besides Gamora and Nebula, but they aren't actually related to him.
According to the Marvel comic books, Thanos was born to Alars (later to be called Mentor) and Sui-San, the last surviving Eternal on Titan after war broke out.  Thanos was a mutant child, not resembling his parents at all.  His younger brother, on the other hand, did.  This handsome younger brother to Thanos was called Eros.  While Thanos later became obsessed with the cosmic embodiment of death, Eros had the "natural ability to excite pleasure in others."  He would travel around the universe searching for adventure and romance.  He even made it to Earth at one point.  See where I'm going with this?
What if Quill's father ends up being Eros?  How messed up would that be?  First off, the whole Quill and Gamora thing would turn into a Luke kissing Leia sort of thing, right?  At least, they aren't actually related to one another, but they'd still be cousins, right?  And that would make Thanos Quill's uncle!
Like I said, this is just one theory that someone put out there, but I thought I'd share it with everyone.  I wouldn't put it past James Gunn to shake things up like this, either.  He can make pretty much anything work in a movie for him.
So what do you think?  To far out there, or plausible?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Who Should They Get To Play Cable?

xforce

We all know that Cable will be appearing in the next Deadpool movie.  As I've stated before, this is a great move.  With the X-Men move franchise winding down their second trilogy, new movies are going to be needed to keep the universe that they've created fresh and interesting to audiences.  We know that there's a Gambit movie in the works, there's the third and final Wolverine stand alone movie that's getting made, a New Mutants movie that's in production, and of course, the sequel to Deadpool.  The sequel to Deadpool is the most important one out of the group that's going to be made.  Why, you ask?  Let me explain...

The Gambit movie is going to be kind of a gamble.  He's never appeared in an X-Men movie (okay, he did appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but we've all written that movie off) and we don't know if Magic Mike...er, Channing Tatum will be able to pull this role off.  The Wolverine movie may do well in the theaters, but it's also going to be Hugh Jackman's last time playing this character, so if it does well...so what?  We'll never get another one with him in it.  The New Mutants is iffy for no other reason than nobody outside of the comic book community knows anything about them, so what will be the draw?  On the other hand, you have a great movie in Deadpool, and with the same writers coming back for the sequel, you'll have the same tone and comedy.  Since we know that Cable will be a part of the next film, this gives 20th Century Fox a chance to lay the ground work for their next franchise series, X-Force.  But who should they get to play Cable?  I have two suggestions for the role.

The first suggestion is Ron Pearlman.  He is the go-to badass when it comes to playing these roles. He has the build, the look, and the personality to pull it off.  He'd be perfect for playing off Ryan Reynold's Wade Wilson's sense of humor.  This guy needs to be seriously considered.

The next person is Stephen Lang, who also can pull off the "Cable" look.  He's got the age, the grit, and the attitude.  We've seen him pull this role off in Avatar, and can definitely pull off the seasoned war veteran character.

So who do you think would be a good actor to play Cable?  Leave your thoughts in the comments section below, or you can leave them on the Comconoclast Facebook page.  Curious to hear what everyone else has to think on this subject!

Oh, and in case you want to know what Keira Knightly would look like as Cable (see Deadpool!) here's a picture:

New Cast Members Announced For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

guardians galaxy 2 cast images Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Official Cast & Teaser Image Revealed

How cool is that picture, right?

So Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has officially begun filming, and not only are we going to get another great space comedy/adventure film, but we will be seeing some new faces in it as well.  The cast's original crew have all returned, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, as well as Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn who will all be reprising their roles from the first film.  The interesting news that came out were the additions that will be appearing.

First off, Pom Klementieff has been hired to play Mantis, who will become the newest member of the crew.  Elizabeth Debicki has been signed to play a role that has yet to be revealed.  Newcomer Chris Sullivan's role is the same way.  Lastly, it was announced that Kurt Russell will be joining the cast as Peter Quill's father. Having said that, he will not be playing J-Son King of Spartax, who is Quill's father in the comic books.  Who he'll be in the film, though, isn't known yet.  Super Director James Gunn sounds pretty excited to start filming the sequel.  Here's what he had to say about the film on his Facebook page:

"Official photography on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has started, and I couldn't be more stoked.

My favorite movie as a small child was The Strongest Man in the World, so I'm glad to announce that, yes, Kurt Russell has joined our cast and, yes, he is more awesome a dude than I ever could have imagined.

The last few days around here with him and our other new cast members, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan, have been some of the best of my life.  I never thought anyone was missing from our island of misfit toys, but now that these folks are here there feels like there was.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, and Glen Close are all returning.

We'll have more surprises for you in the coming months.  But, for now, this will have to do.

I have to get back to set!

Have a great day, everybody."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out on May5, 2017.  Waaaay too long to wait!

Todd McFarlane Finishes Script For Spawn Movie

Spawn 250 Jock Variant

The last time Spawn hit the silver screen was back in 1997, nearly twenty years ago, and it's taken fans nearly that long to get the bad taste out of their mouths after watching it.  It was horrible, and something that we'd all soon forget ever happened.  Thank Gawd that we won't have to live through that again!  Wait...what?  Todd McFarlane is writing another script for another Spawn movie?  Here we go again.

Okay, I'm being very unfair to Mr. McFarlane.  I honestly do not blame him for that lousy film.  Yes, he was credited as being one of the writers, but he wasn't the director, something that he's hoping to do this time around.  Not only that, but the same year that the movie came out HBO aired an animated Spawn series that completely knocked it out of the park!  It was exactly what Spawn fans were wanting, and what we were hoping to get with the movie.  If you haven't seen the animated series yet, it's available on DVD and Bluray.

So after twenty years since the first movie came out, Mr. McFarlane is hoping to get it right this time around.  Here's what he had to say about the upcoming film:

"I've finished the script, and I'm in the process of editing.  It's 183 pages, and [producers] usually like 120. I still think it's going to end up being about 140, because I'm putting in details for myself.  I want to keep it small, keep it tight, so they'll let me direct it!  I need to get him back up on the big screen again to make him relevant in a big way, which we will do."

Then he continued:

"I’d put it more into the horror/suspense/supernatural genre. If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that…In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the specter, the ghost. "

Being able to direct something that you write seems important to McFarlane because only then will he be able to get out of it what he sees it looking like in his head.  Handing the director's chair over to someone else will lose that vision.  So Todd, I'm crossing my fingers for you.  Hope you get the chance to direct your script.

There's no release date for the film yet, but they are hoping to start production for the film later this year, putting it as a release sometime in 2017.  I'll keep you posted as more information come out.

This Is Why James Gunn Is One Of My Favorite Movie Makers!

James Gunn Defends Marvel, Praises Deadpool, In NSFW Rant image

I know what you're thinking.  Why do I have a picture from the Deadpool movie when it sounds like I'm going to be talking about James Gunn (a.k.a. Super Director) in this blog?  Simple!  He so artfully and eloquently explained/defended the success of the movie while teaching a "Hollywood suit" why he's an idiot for his comments on the Deadpool film.  Keep biting the hand that feeds you, Gunn!  They won't touch you, not with your successful track record!  This guy is great!

Okay, here's how it all started.  After it was announced that after only three days in theaters, Deadpool pulled in $150 million domestically, and over $282 million internationally, Deadline published an article by someone that Cinemablend.com refers to as a "Hollywood suit."  The article went on to say that "said-suit" had "complimented Deadpool for having a 'self-deprecating tone' and said that Marvel Studios would never make fun of themselves like that."  Okay, this killjoy sounds a little jealous over the success of Deadpool.  Nobody likes a sore loser, bub.  So now Mr. James Gunn decides to respond to this person's comments, and he does so in such an epic fashion!  Please note, I tried to edit some of the words for the sake of our younger readers, but you'll get the idea:

"COME THE F*CK ON. That's no reason to rewrite history. This quote has to have been said by the dumbest f*cking Hollywood exec in the history of dumb f*cking Hollywood execs. Let's ignore Guardians for a moment, a movie that survives from moment to moment building itself up and cutting itself down - God knows I'm biased about that one. But what do you think Favreau and Downey did in Iron Man? What the f*ck was Ant-Man??! … Deadpool was its own thing. THAT'S what people are reacting to. It's original, it's damn good, it was made with love by the filmmakers, and it wasn't afraid to take risks."

New...favorite...director...ever!  Gotta love a guy that not only does great work, but defends other people that do great work, whether or not they are a part of the movie studio that you work for/with.  A great movie is just that...a great movie, no matter who produces it.  But "Hollywood suits" only see dollar signs, and not what was actually created.  Has this guy even seen the movie, or just the returns?  My guess is that it's the latter.

So go see Deadpool, which is in theaters now, and make sure that you go see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which comes out May 5, 2017.  See it to show your support for Gunn, but more importantly, go see it because it will be great.

Did You Ever Wonder How The Ferris Bueller After Credit Scene Came To Be?

How Deadpool Came Up With The Brilliant Ferris Bueller Reference image
One of the best parts of the Deadpool movie had to be the after credits scene that paid homage to the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.  Why did they do this?  Well, it's quite simple.  Ferris Bueller broke through the fourth wall the entire movie, and that's exactly what Deadpool did.  Here's what one of the writer/producers, Rhett Reese, had to say on the scene:

"Ferris Bueller is obviously famous for many things, one of them is breaking the fourth wall, so it just kind of clicked in my head, like, ‘What if Deadpool is in the robe, and he’s walking down the hallway.’ We wrote it, and everyone was like, ‘My God, this is it.’ Because we had all these grand plans for codas and cameos and so on and so forth, and we were like, this is it."

And the rest, as they say, is history.  Chuga Chuga!

The Next Big Movie To Be Released Is Batman v Superman

Possible Green Lantern In Batman V Superman Revealed image

Warner Brothers and DC have to be getting a little nervous with the upcoming premier of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, especially after the incredible debut of Deadpool!  Early indicators had predicted that Deadpool would pull in only $60 - $70 million in it's opening weekend, but after pulling in $47.5 million opening night, and continuing strong throughout the weekend, it's four day total is looking to be closer to $155+ million when all is said and done.  And Deadpool was made only spending $58 million.  It's looking to take in triple what it took to film!  That's pretty amazing!  I wonder how much Batman v Superman cost to make?

The answer to that last question is $131 million, and unlike the extremely positive reviews that Deadpool had received in it's early screenings, Batman v Superman hasn't been so lucky.  In fact, the only thing that people who've seen the early screenings have said they like about the movie is Ben Affleck's Batman.  You'll notice that going into the final stretch of advertising there is going to be more of a focus on Batman than on anybody else, including Superman.  Executive producers are beginning to worry that the dark and brooding world of the DC cinematic universe isn't appealing to audiences.  That's not to say that it won't be a huge success, people can't wait to see Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman on the same screen at the same time.  Not only that, but we'll also get to see Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash as well.  The only one that won't be making an appearance will be Green Lantern...or will he?

There's a rumor going around that Green Lantern will actually be making an appearance in the movie, at least, one of the Green Lanterns will be making an appearance in the film.  Since we know that the upcoming Green Lantern movie will actually be called The Green Lantern Corps, it could possibly be a number of different Green Lanterns that will show up, but the most likely candidate is Hal Jordan.  The rumor goes on to say that Dan Amboyer will be playing this role.  In the film, his character credit is only "drone pilot."  Hmmm...a pilot...

Whatever happens happens, right?  And we won't have to wait long to find out if it's going to be a huge hit or a disaster.  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out March 23, 2016.

AMC Is Geeking Out With Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith1 AMC Orders Kevin Smith Late Night Talk Show

AMC struck gold when they decided to sign on for The Walking Dead, and it's been such a huge hit that they even developed a talk show that just talks about that one program called The Talking Dead.  It brings on actors from the show, as well as other guests to talk about each episode that airs, and it's a hit in it's own right.  Seeing how people are willing to tune into a show to watch people talk about the show and give their opinions and thoughts on it gave AMC another idea...what if we did something similar that expanded the topics to everything that geeks and fanboys love?  Not only that, but who could they possibly get to host something like that?

The answer to the first question is easy.  Geeks and fanboys would love to have their own show!  When it came to choosing a host, that may have been even easier to answer!  Enter Kevin Smith, a writer/director/producer/actor/comic book writer/podcast king....the list goes on and on!  So when AMC approached Smith about the idea of hosting the show, he jumped at the chance.  Don't believe me?  Here's what the King of the Geeks had to say about it:

“I can’t wait to lose fluids on the airwaves of my favorite channel over the genre gems we’re gonna get insider access to due to gregarious Greg’s bonafides! And to make it even more of a family affair, Geeking Out lets me work with the Weinsteins again — the two guys who started my career 22 years ago! I’m lucky to be working at all, let alone working with friends and family on a dream show where all we do is talk about all the media that makes us moist!”

Kevin Smith won't be alone on hosting duties, though.  He'll be joined by another geek and fanboy Greg Grunberg.  Don't know him?  You should.  He's been in shows like Heroes, Heroes Reborn, Masters of Sex, Criminal Minds, and The Mysteries of Laura.  In fact, he most recently appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  He had an actual acting role in the film, and Smith did some voice work for the film, so these two are probably completely geeking out over their contributions to a Star Wars film.  That's like every geeks dream!  Still don't know who Grunberg is? Ugh.  Fine.  Here's a picture of him:

Heroes Reborn June 13 Part Two Matt Parkman AMC Orders Kevin Smith Late Night Talk Show

Can't tell me you don't know him now.  So how does he feel about doing a show with Smith?  He's geeking out just as much as Smith.  Here's what he had to say about the show:

“I am going to get every single genre-based writer, director and actor I know to come on our show and geek out with us. And they’re going to thank me for it. I love how Kevin Smith smells and we fit together like two hibernating fan-bears. Thanks to AMC and the Weinsteins, the rest of the world is going to get to see what’s inside our dark, dank geek cave. It’s going to be a fun 30 minutes, if I can just get Kevin to stop talking and smoking.”

Geeking Out is supposed to premier with a special San Diego Comic Con episode in late July, with eight more episodes to air weekly after that, running through late summer on AMC.

Best Comic Book Based Movie Made So Far!

deadpool-trailer-2-62

In honor of the after the credits scene in Deadpool I give you the following line…"Ryan Reynolds, you're my hero!"  Yes, Ryan Reynolds finally gave fanboys the movie that they've been waiting for…and it was great!  In fact, this was quite possibly the best comic book adaptation that has been made so far.  The hard R-rating told us that they were serious about being true to the comic book character, and they nailed it.  Not only did they capture the humor of the anti-hero, but they broke through the 4th wall, just like they do in the comic book.  In fact, they broke through the 4th wall while breaking through the 4th wall, so they broke through the…what, 16th wall?  Okay, you have to go see the movie to get that one.

Reynolds shines as Wade Wilson, thanks to an incredible script and I'm sure a lot of ad libbing.  But as good of a job as he did playing the Merc with a Mouth, the supporting cast were amazing as well.  Colossus does a great job of playing the hero who tries to push Deadpool onto the path of righteousness and do gooding, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead rocks as the moody teenager that Colossus is tasked with training.  Ajax is the perfect villain and Vanessa plays the perfect compliment to Wilson's smart ass character.  TJ Miller plays Weasel, who does a great job (as always) as playing Wilson's best friend.  He manages to steal a bit of the spotlight every time he shows up, but not enough to outshine Reynolds, who again, was perfect in this movie.

This isn't a comic book movie for everyone, though.  There is blood, guts, and nudity throughout the whole film.  In short…the perfect movie.  In fact, Stan Lee's cameo in the film is that of a DJ in a strip club.  I know, right?  Who saw that one coming?  Even having said this, though, it should be noted that it pulled in over $47 million on opening day.  Not bad for a movie that was put together for $58 million.  Early projections had the film only pulling in $60-$70 million the entire weekend, but now they've changed those projections to close to $130 million, doubling in one weekend what it cost to make.

So in short, go see this movie!  If you're a fan of the comic book, you will love this movie!  Let me know what your thoughts are after you go see it.  You can leave your comments in the section below, you can email me at comconocave@gmail.com, or you can leave the at the Comconoclast Facebook page.  Let me know what your favorite scene from the film is, or what made you laugh the loudest, and trust me, you will be laughing out loud!

The "Expendables" Of Horror Movies

                           MV5BMjM2MzMxMTkxOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTU3NTU3OQ@@._V1__SX1208_SY637_

So Freddy, Jason, and Pinhead walk into a bar…

Okay, it's not necessarily that simple of a joke.  In fact, it's not a joke at all.  It's a new movie that will be coming out some time next year, brought about by the evil genius of the late Gunnar "Leatherface" Hansen.   They won't be playing their iconic characters (from what it sounds like) but how cool would it be to see these actors all on the same screen at the same time?  Here's what IMDB.com has to say about the upcoming film:

"The Four Horsemen are the most notorious serial killers of all time. Robert Englund’s weapon of choice is fire; Gunnar Hansen has an unquenchable thirst for human flesh; Bill Moseley is a surgeon, and tends to focus on mutilation and torture; and Doug Bradley shares a bond with spiders, particularly the Brown Recluse Spider, whose poison Bradley is happy to dispense among those unfortunate enough to meet him.
All four killers are safely housed in a maximum security wing in the basement of the infamous Dodhoff Prison, aka THE DEATH HOUSE.
The newest inmate to the prison is Sid Haig, a Hitler-wannabe with a cult following, whose right-hand man Jeff is almost as sadistic as him.
Also arriving at the prison is a college field trip, led by Professor Dee Wallace. She brings her Psychology class every year to observe, from a safe distance of course, the four horsemen in their prison habitat.
The students include Anna, a no-nonsense passionate student; Nick, who’s taking the class for a glorified credit,; Harold, the geek who could have majored in anything and been successful,; and Suzie, the slut of the group. Michael, the Professor’s Assistant, keeps everything on track for Wallace.
During the tour of the prison by Warden Danny Trejo, Jeff and the cultists invade, staging a prison break to free their god-like leader- and they are shooting to kill. The assault is successful, as they free Sid, but the Warden, locks down the prison to keep Sid from escaping, and contain the prison break. The warden directs the students down a back passage to the boiler room to save their lives. Unfortunately, that is the Warden’s last move, as he is gunned down by the infiltrating mob.
Anna hits the button to release the four horsemen from their cells, knowing they are the only option to take down the mob, and save their own lives in the process. But blood is universal, and soon the students find themselves navigating a brutal and gruesome labyrinth to survive, as the Four Horsemen, in their quest for freedom, unleash holy hell."
Think of this as a mix between The Expendables and The Suicide Squad.  Mayhem ensues.  Can't wait.  Now, I'm going to go see the new Deadpool movie.  I'll let you know how it is in tomorrow's blog!

I Hope This Rumor About Star Wars: Episode VIII Isn't True...

Episode-VIII

At a meeting the other day, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII has started it's principal photography.  With the success of The Force Awakens and the upcoming Rogue One, Disney is wanting to forward fast so they can capitalize on the excitement that has been building for the franchise.  Thanks to writer/director Rian Johnson, they are now able to do just that.

But what's it going to be about and in what direction are they going to be taking the franchise?  It's way too early to know anything like that, but there was one bit of news that popped up over the last couple of days that has me shaking my head.  Apparently Ewan McGregor is in talks to return to the Star Wars universe as Obi-Wan Kenobi's ghost.  This bothers me on a number of levels.  Let me explain.

Okay.  When Return of the Jedi was first released, the end of the movie showed the ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin.  Obi-Wan was played by Sir Alec Guinness and Anakin was played by Sebastian Shaw.  It was the perfect scene, showing Luke that he was able to save his father from the Dark Side.  Then when the movies were re-released, George Lucas mucked things up and replaced Sebastian Shaw's ghost with that of a younger Anakin, played by Hayden Christiansen, but they left Obi-Wan's ghost as Sir Alec Guinness.  Now they want to bring in Ewan McGregor to play a younger version of Obi-Wan's ghost for Episode VIII?  I don't like it.

During one scene in The Force Awakens, Rey is kind of flipping out because Luke's lightsaber is showing her all sorts of images and sounds, and she doesn't know what's going on.  One of those sounds was the actual voice Sir Alec Guinness calling out Rey's name.  What they did was take an actual line of his from the previous films where he says something like "Afraid", I don't remember the actual word, and then shortened it to say just "Rai", or more to the point, "Rey".  Why go through all of this trouble to use Sir Alec's voice if you are just going to replace him with McGregor?

Lastly, it's being reported that in the upcoming Rogue One film, they are going to be doing some impressive movie magic and bring Peter Cushing back to the screen as Grand Moff Tarkin.  They are doing this because he's instrumental to the story, and also because...well, they can.  So if you're going to do this for a stand alone movie that takes place in the Star Wars universe, why not do the same for the actual storied franchise?  It makes no sense to me.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter.  Think I'm over reacting?  Probably, but it still bothers me to no end.  It just reminds everyone that the prequels actually happened, and that they are still apart of the storyline, whether we like it or not.

Cable Is Coming To Deadpool 2

cabledeadpool

Yesterday I brought you news that 20th Century Fox has signed on for a sequel to Deadpool.  Now we're hearing that Cable will be joining him this time around.  It makes sense to bring Nathan Summers into the Deadpool movies, especially if Fox is wanting to do an X-Force movie, seeing as he was the founder and leader of the team.  Plus, there have been some great Deadpool/Cable comics that have been published, and seeing them on the screen together would be epic!

So what kind of role is he going to have in the film?  If it's comparable to the role Colossus has in Deadpool, then it should be a pretty big one, and not just a cameo appearance.

Cable (a.k.a. Nathan Christopher Charles Summer) was first introduced to the Marvel universe in New Mutants #87 and is the son of Scott Summers (a.k.a. Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a.k.a. Red Queen).  He came about when Mr. Sinister discovered that a child between Scott Summers and Jean Grey would produce a "powerful genetically superior mutant" that he hoped to use to defeat Apocalypse, his immortal enemy.  The only problem was that by the time he figured this out, Jean Grey had been consumed by the "Pheonix Force" and was thought to be dead.  Not letting that get in his way, Mr. Sinister created a clone of Jean Grey and named her Madelyne Pryor.  He was able to get the two to meet and they had the child he'd been plotting for.

While Nathan was still a baby, a mutant by the name of Cable showed up and ended up taking command of the New Mutants.  What the the X-Men didn't know was that Cable was actually the future version of Nathan.  That's the very, very, short version of who Cable is.  No actor has been chosen to play the role of Cable yet, but when I hear something, I'll let you know.

Deadpool hits theaters tomorrow.

A Deadpool 2 Has Already Got A Green Light

Deadpool Beer Yes, Deadpool 2 Is Already In The Works

Deadpool hits theaters this Friday, and he's got everyone talking!  With an incredible ad campaign and having Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 100% likability from the early screenings, 20th Century Fox has already given the go ahead for a sequel to the film.  In the early stages of it's creation, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick made it clear that they wanted to make more than just one film for the beloved comic book character, and that they already had ideas in mind for the follow up.  Director Tim Miller and actor Ryan Reynolds are both on board for the sequel, too.

This movie has had to overcome some pretty big obstacles in order to get made, though, so the fact that a sequel is already in the works is pretty impressive.  First introduced to the X-Men cinematic universe in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds played Wade Wilson pretty convincingly in the movies first 10 minutes or so, but when he came back at the end with no mouth and no personality, fans turned their backs on the character and the movie.  I mean, what were they thinking taking away the Merc with a Mouth's mouth?  Idiots.  Before it's disastrous debut, 20th Century Fox was already planning to make a stand alone Deadpool movie, but when Origins tanked, it got shelved.  That was seven years ago.  But Reynolds never gave up on the movie and kept pushing to get it made.  Then, last year some test footage that had been done "leaked" online, and fans went nuts!  Who leaked it?  No one knows.  20th Century Fox said they were investigating it, but I'm pretty sure that if they ever find out who did it, they'll get a bonus check, and not fired.  The leaked footage stole all of the attention at SDCC and was fast tracked into production.

The second hurdle that it had to make was a question of what sort of rating should it get?  Fans were afraid that it would get a PG-13 rating so the studio could reach a wider audience, but anything less than an R wouldn't be true to the comic book character.  The fans won out, and we got our R rating.  Now, after months and months of waiting, we'll get to see just how good a job they've done with the character.  It's success is important for the company, too, and they've got a lot riding on it.  Not just in in dollars, but in keeping the X-Men cinematic universe going as well.  With this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse ending this second trilogy of the famed mutants, 20th Century Fox needs Deadpool to do well so they can keep their X-Men franchise going.  If Deadpool does as well as everyone is saying, not only are we getting a Deadpool 2, but expect to see spinoff movies like X-Force and The New Mutants making their way to the screen in the coming years.

I have to say, after seeing Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he pissed me off.  Now seeing him as Deadpool, I can't think of anyone else who could ever play the guy.  Let's hope he's around for the ride as long as Hugh Jackman was as Wolverine.  Way to redeem yourself, Reynolds!

How One Avenger May Die In Captain America: Civil War

Team Cap

What team will you choose?  That was the question asked in the preview for Captain America: Civil War that was shown during the Super Bowl this past Sunday night.  As you can see in the above picture, Captain America has Falcon, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, the Scarlett Witch, and the Winter Soldier.  That last one mentioned will be playing a big part in the movie's storyline.  Just to get this out of the way, ***POTENTIAL SPOILERS!!!*** ahead!

So Geek.com is reporting that there were two endings that were written for Captain America: Civil War.  In one of them, Steve Rogers survives, and in the other one, he dies.  I've talked about this in previous posts.  It's been rumored that after the war between the heroes, Captain America strikes a deal with the government that grants immunity for everyone who sided with him during the battle.  After reaching this deal, he's paraded out onto the steps of the Capital Building to announce his "surrender".  Then he's shot dead.  Geek.com is reporting that it's at the hands of Crossbones.  This is unusual because Frank Grillo (the guy playing Crossbones) specifically said in an interview that he doesn't get to kill Captain America.  Sure, he could be lying and trying to misdirect, but that's unusual for an actor to do, I mean, to straight out lie about something.  They might dance around the question, but that's usually it.  So take this bit of news with a grain of salt.

They are also reporting that Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes (a.k.a. the Winter Soldier) has been fitted for a Captain America costume.  It's been teased that one of three people could be taking over the role of Captain America after Rogers' death, Falcon, Sharon Carter (Agent 13), or Bucky Barnes.  If the news about Stan being fitted for the costume is true, however, then this little dilemma seems to have been answered.  Makes sense, though, considering that he took over for Cap after he died in the comic book version of Civil War.

It should also be noted that Chris Evans has signed on to appear in at least one of the Infinity Wars movies, so he might not stay dead long.  Either that, or he'll just appear in flash backs or something.  We won't find that out for another couple of years.

Captain America: Civil War comes out May 5, 2016.

New TMNT Out Of The Shadows Trailer Hit Last Night

krang

Last night during the Super Bowl, there were a lot of movie trailers that debuted, and they all had a ton of new footage to show us.  There was Captain America: Civil War, Independence Day:Resurgence, Jason Bourne, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Deadpool, just to name a few.  But the one that I liked the most was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.  In it, we not only got our first look at the cartoon favorites BeBop and Rocksteady, but rumored "big baddie" Krang made his first appearance, too.

This is really looking like a live-action version of the 80's cartoon.  As you can see from the picture above, Krang is safely tucked away in is android suit, and it looks almost identical to the cartoon suit, all the way down to his visor.  And in keeping with the 80's cartoon, we also got to see Krang's Technodrome.  This had been hinted at through some of the leaked images of toys for the movie.  Why do movie companies let that happen?  I've talked about this before regarding Civil War and Legos.  But I digress...

Along for the ride is Bebop and Rocksteady, looking like their cartoon counterparts as well.  There was a pretty good clip of a fight scene between Rocksteady and Casey Jones (played by Arrow's Stephen Amell) that looks to be pretty intense.  Rounding out the 80's cartoon nostalgia is the introduction of the Turtle Assult Van, with a manhole launcher in the front and giant nunchucks on the sides.  They really want to push the merchandise for this one!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows hits theaters June 3, 2016.

A Flash/Supergirl Cross-Over Is Now Official

The Flash And Supergirl Are Officially Crossing Over, Here's What We Know image

When it was first announced that Supergirl was coming to television, and that it was going to have Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg as executive producers, everybody began to wonder if the show would take place in the "Arrow-verse."  CBS and the EP's quickly downplayed the idea, and said that she would be apart of her own universe.  I still think that's going to be true, even with the announcement that Grant Gustin's Flash is going to appear on Supergirl on March 28 this year.  Here was the statement given by Berlanti and Kreisberg on the crossover, and then I'll explain how they'll still be able to keep their respective worlds separate:

"We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl – The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up!  We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone's enthusiasm and support.”

So how will they be able to pull this off while keeping their own worlds separate?  The Flash has introduced the reality of alternate universes, and it also seems that Flash is going to be traveling to these alternate Earths in his upcoming episodes.  So...what if one of these Earth's will be the one that Kara Zor-El is apart of?  Makes sense, right?  This way, they can do the cross-over without screwing up any of their own story lines and making things more confusing in the long run for every show involved in the "Arrow-verse" (i.e. Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow).

I might be wrong on how they plan to handle the cross-over, but this is the one that makes the most sense.  Also, The Flash is a better fit to use as a cross-over show, as opposed to Arrow, because The Flash is a "lighter" show that compliments Supergirl, unlike Arrow which is darker and more gritty.  How ever they handle it, we won't have to wait long to see how it happens!

How BIg Of A Role Will Thanos Have In The MCU Before Infinity Wars?

How Josh Brolin Learned The Importance Of Thanos To The MCU image

Don't expect to see Thanos before the Phase Three capstone films Avengers: Infinity War 1 & 2.  At least, that's how I'm understanding it to mean from a couple of interviews that Josh Brolin has given while on tour promoting his new movie Hail Caesar!.  From what he's said, he and Marvel haven't even sat down to talk about what his role in the films will be.  But let's face it, from the title alone, we know that he'll be the central big baddie Mad Titan that takes on the entire MCU.  Should he appear in any of the upcoming films for the MCU before that though?  I don't think so, and here's why.

In each of the Marvel movies that have been released, the good guy always wins at the end.  If he keeps showing up before the Infinity Wars movies, and gets thwarted in his attempts to get the stones each time, it will diminish his perception as being the most powerful being in the universe.  To be honest, I loved his first appearance at the end of the credits of the first Avengers film, it was a great tease.  His role in Guardians of the Galaxy left me scratching my head, though, and here's why.  If you were the most powerful person in the universe, and you were attempting to obtain the Infinity Stones so you control all manner of life, death, time, and space, would you really farm this task out to someone else to get for you?  Wouldn't you want to do it yourself so the power of these stones didn't fall into someone else's hands?  You know, like it did with Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy?  Yes, I know that at the end of the second Avengers film, Age of Ultron, he says something along the lines of, "I guess I'll have to do it myself," but shouldn't he have wanted to do it that way in the first place?  The only thing that it showed me was that he could have powerful people do his bidding for him, but it really made me question how smart of a move that was, and in doing so, question how smart he really is.

Of course, this is just my opinion on how Marvel should use him going forward before unleashing him on the universe in Avengers: Infinity War 1 & 2, but doesn't this make sense?  How do you think they should use him going forward?  Would you like to see more of him in the upcoming movies, or have them hold off until Infinity War comes out?  Leave your thoughts in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Avengers: Infinity War 1 & 2 comes out May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 respectively.

Could Thor: Ragnarok Introduce Planet Hulk Storyline To The MCU?

Hulk and Thor Marvel Fan Art Can Thor: Ragnarok Adapt Planet Hulk Story For MCU?

It may be possible that we will get a glimpse of a "Planet Hulk" storyline in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok movie.  I know, that sounds weird, since Ragnarok tells of the fall of Asgard, right?  Well, according to a story that Screenrant.com posted, this just might be the case.  Here's what they are reporting, and just to be clear, this is just a rumor as to what may be happening in the upcoming film, but just in case it turns out to be true, ***POTENTIAL SPOILERS!!!*** ahead!

In the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, Cate Blanchett is going to be playing Hela, who is going to team up with Loki to destroy Asgard.  While doing this, apparently she is able to destroy Mjolnir, Thor's hammer, and banishes him from his home realm.  Instead of being banished to Earth, though, like in the first Thor film, he is sent to a planet that is the MCU's version of Planet Hulk.  The report doesn't say if the planet is going to be called Sakaar or not.  It does say that it houses a "gladiator-style arena" where Thor might get his hair chopped off and thrown into battle.

Thor, sans helmet, hair, and hammer, fights through a bunch of opponents until he meets the Hulk.  They don't say how the Hulk gets to be there (the last time we saw him was at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron flying a jet off somewhere unknown) but it does say that he has been in Hulk-mode for a very long time.  His inner Bruce Banner will eventually remind Hulk who Thor is, a friend, and they team up to save Asgard.

On their way back to Asgard, the report also notes that Thor is on a quest to find something that will help him with his fight to save Asgard.  An Infinity Stone maybe?  They don't say, but they will eventually get to Asgard and the final battle will take place there.

Outside of Guardians of the Galaxy, this looks like the first MCU film that won't deal with Earth at all, but focus on some of the other realms that were discussed in the first film.  Of course, anything can change between now and the time the movie gets released.  There could be rewrites, re-shoots, or things get left on the cutting room floor.  But if this does turn out to be true, then this could be one of the best Marvel movies that will have been made so far!

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.

Will Hugh Jackman Be The Only Person To Play Wolverine?

Could Wolverine Appear In Deadpool 2? Here's What Hugh Jackman Said image

That's what it's starting to sound like.  No, that doesn't mean that Jackman has decided to stay on as the character after Wolverine III, but it does mean that there are no plans to replace him in the role in the foreseeable future.  Digital Spy is reporting that director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg recently sat down to talk about where to go with Wolverine after Jackman's departure, and they both agreed that they couldn't see anyone else play the role.  And me?  I have to agree with them on this one.  Here's what they said on the matter:

"I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories. So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can’t imagine anybody else playing the part, and there’s not too many characters I can say that for."

That doesn't mean that we won't have anyone else popping their claws in upcoming movies.  There are quite a few possibilities for a replacement Wolverine.  They could use Akihiro (a.k.a. Daken) who was the son of Wolverine and who's mother was Itsu (deceased).  Considering he was more of a villain than a hero, they probably won't go this route.  The more obvious choice would be to introduce Laura Kinney (a.k.a. X23) who is a clone created from Logan's DNA.  She has a lot of the same attributes as Logan, in terms of abilities and temperament, but as young as she is, she doesn't have his knowledge.  Still, she would be the best choice for his replacement on the team.

So unless that chicken diet is too good for Jackman to pass up, expect his last appearance as Wolverine to be in the untitled Wolverine III, which is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.

This Star Wars "Expanded Universe" Character Might Be Coming Back

One of the biggest complaints that Star Wars fans had after Disney purchased Lucasfilm from George Lucas was that all of the novels and comic book stories that had been created were no longer apart of Star Wars "official canon."  The biggest loss to the official canon was the Heir To The Empire trilogy that was written by Timothy Zahn back in the 90's.  It had all of the elements and feel of the original trilogy, and people quickly gobbled up the series after waiting for seven years for a new Star Wars story.  The trilogy's main villain was one Grand Admiral Thrawn (pictured above), part of the Chiss species, he was the only non-human admiral in the Imperial Navy.  But unfortunately, when it was in with Disney, it was out with Thrawn.

Except maybe it's not.  According to Makingstarwars.net Disney is rumored to be bringing Thrawn back some time this season to appear in Star Wars Rebels.  Now, like I said, this is just a rumor, so it might not be happening, but if it is taking place, this opens up a whole new door for Disney and their Star Wars property.  First off, if he is going to be re-introduced to Star Wars "official canon" through Star Wars Rebels, which takes place after Revenge of the Sith but before A New Hope, could it be possible that he'll make an appearance in this year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?  Second, if this re-introduction of Thrawn works, will they look to other characters from past works in comic books and novels...like Mara Jade?

Like I said, as of right now these are all just rumors, but they are interesting enough to mention.  We won't know until this season of Rebels is over and done.  If I hear anything else on this matter, I'll make sure to keep you posted.  Also, if you haven't already checked it out, make sure you go to the Comconoclast Facebook page and give it a "Like".  You can reach it by going to https://www.facebook.com/TheComconoclast1/?ref=hl.

Will We Get An Intelligent Hulk For Thor: Ragnarok?

thorragnarok

The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has to be one of the most discussed characters that they have.  There have been questions as to when he'll get his own stand-alone movie, there were questions as to whether or not to show us the "Gray Hulk" during the last Avengers movie, and now they're discussing when/if we'll be treated to an intelligent Hulk.  This question was raised after Mark Ruffalo made the comment, "The Banner/Hulk consciousness is beginning to meld a little bit," in an interview last month.  So what does the director for Thor: Ragnarok have to say about this question?  Here's what Taika Waititi (director) had to say on the matter:

"It's interesting, because at the moment, there's a big conversation that's happening about how far to push that,  Whether or not The Hulk should be [verbal/conscious].  I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what's going to come up in future movies.  So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer.  They have a lot of stuff that they have to consider.  But I do think that's the best way to track it.  I think we all want that,  I think we all want to see that development and evolution of that character.  I also think you can do it in a fun way."

That last line prompted HitFix, who was doing the article, to ask her about the level of comedy in the film.  With the title of "Ragnarok," is the use of too much comedy appropriate?  After all, it does deal with the fall of Asgard (according to legend).

"It's not going to be a crazy comedy, like over the top.  But that's definitely my strength and that's what they were looking for when they approached me.  So, I think that is the thing I can bring to it to give it a different spin and freshen it up a bit."

She also said that she wants Thor to be the main focus of the film, something that hasn't necessarily happened in his other films.  Tom Hiddleston's Loki has stolen the show in each of his appearances, and supporting characters have almost had equal screen time as Thor.  Waititi says that she wants the main focus to be on him, and that she will make him the best character that he can be.  Let's hope that she's true to her word.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3, 2017.
