Who Should They Get To Play Cable?
We all know that Cable will be appearing in the next Deadpool movie. As I've stated before, this is a great move. With the X-Men move franchise winding down their second trilogy, new movies are going to be needed to keep the universe that they've created fresh and interesting to audiences. We know that there's a Gambit movie in the works, there's the third and final Wolverine stand alone movie that's getting made, a New Mutants movie that's in production, and of course, the sequel to Deadpool. The sequel to Deadpool is the most important one out of the group that's going to be made. Why, you ask? Let me explain...
The Gambit movie is going to be kind of a gamble. He's never appeared in an X-Men movie (okay, he did appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but we've all written that movie off) and we don't know if Magic Mike...er, Channing Tatum will be able to pull this role off. The Wolverine movie may do well in the theaters, but it's also going to be Hugh Jackman's last time playing this character, so if it does well...so what? We'll never get another one with him in it. The New Mutants is iffy for no other reason than nobody outside of the comic book community knows anything about them, so what will be the draw? On the other hand, you have a great movie in Deadpool, and with the same writers coming back for the sequel, you'll have the same tone and comedy. Since we know that Cable will be a part of the next film, this gives 20th Century Fox a chance to lay the ground work for their next franchise series, X-Force. But who should they get to play Cable? I have two suggestions for the role.
The first suggestion is Ron Pearlman. He is the go-to badass when it comes to playing these roles. He has the build, the look, and the personality to pull it off. He'd be perfect for playing off Ryan Reynold's Wade Wilson's sense of humor. This guy needs to be seriously considered.
The next person is Stephen Lang, who also can pull off the "Cable" look. He's got the age, the grit, and the attitude. We've seen him pull this role off in Avatar, and can definitely pull off the seasoned war veteran character.
So who do you think would be a good actor to play Cable? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below, or you can leave them on the Comconoclast Facebook page. Curious to hear what everyone else has to think on this subject!
Oh, and in case you want to know what Keira Knightly would look like as Cable (see Deadpool!) here's a picture:
