Connection Between Thor: Ragnarok And Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

While the players in Guardians of the Galaxy have, for the most part, remained separate from the rest of the Marvel movies (only because it takes place in outer space), a new rumor has surfaced that seems to connect Thor: Ragnarok with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.  Even though director James Gunn has hinted that his sequel will be even more of a "standalone" film than the first movie, The Hashtag Show says that they have an inside source over at Marvel that seems to explain how they are going to bring the crew of the Milano into the rest of the MCU.  Here's what they had to say:

“Thor and the Hulk will in some way encounter the Cotati, one of the oldest species of aliens in the Marvel universe. The Cotati are best known as the race of aliens to awaken the powers within Mantis.”

Now, in case you weren't aware of this, Mantis is going to be joining the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy members in next year's sequel.  Mantis is going to be played by Pom Klementieff, and although she looks like she's from Earth, Gunn has made it clear that Peter Quill will be the only human in the movie.  This information tells us that they are going to be changing up Mantis' character from the one in the comic book, so I'm not even going to go into who she is in them, it would be pointless.  The Hashtag Show also said that the Cotati will be a race that look like Mantis, which also changes them from the comic book version of the race.  In the comic books, they are a race of "immobile plant forms," where as now they will take on a humanoid body.

If the rumors that The Hashtag Show are reporting are true, then the most likely scenario for introducing the Cotati to the MCU will be to have Thor, and maybe the Hulk, pass through Hala, the home planet of both the Cotati and the Kree, as they try and make their way back to Asgard.  While this is going to be the Cotati's first appearance in the MCU, the Kree have appeared a number of times, both on screen in the first Guardians of the Galaxy and on television on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  It's also been reported that Peter Quill will be showing up in Avengers: Infinity War, so this may also be the connection that brings Star Lord into the fold with the other Marvel superheroes.

Another bit of Thor: Ragnarok news surfaced the other day when someone posted a picture to Twitter that showed an Avengers' Quinjet on the set.  Check it out below:

Since it still looks to be under construction, it's hard to tell if it's in one piece, or if it's been damaged.  The last time we saw this vehicle was at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, where the Hulk was flying it off and away from his teammates.  They lost it on their radar and assumed that the Quinjet went down in the water, but now it seems that wasn't the case.  More than likely, the Quinjet and the Hulk were grabbed by The Grandmaster (played by Jeff Goldblum) so he could have the Hulk fight in his gladiator-style games.  This is all speculation, though.

So what do you think about all of this Thor: Ragnarok news?  Are you looking forward to seeing this movie?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below.  Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
