Does Deadpool Team Up With Harley Quinn In Her Rebirth #1 Comic?

Well, okay, maybe not the "actual" Deadpool, but they certainly are channeling the Merc with a Mouth for Harley Quinn: Rebirth #1.  In the past, having a Marvel and DC team-up wouldn't have been that far out of the question.  Marvel and DC have done crossover events in the past, pitting Marvel Universe heroes against DC Universe heroes in head-to-head matchups, and the two comic book giants even put out a run of stories under the name of Amalgam Comics that combined two comic book characters, one from each publisher, into one whole new character (i.e. Bruce Wayne: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.).  Every once in a while, Marvel will throw in a newspaper reporter named "Clark," (no last name) in a panel, and he looks suspiciously like the Man of Steel, and Deadpool and Deathstroke often refer to their "brother" in comic books (Wade Wilson is Deadpool, and Slade Wilson is Deathstroke).  They never refer to them by name, but always describe one another to the point there could be no misunderstanding.  However, now that both companies are in the business of making movies, these sort of team-ups and crossovers probably will never happen again.  This is because why would you want to help the competition advertise their characters in your own comic books?  Heck, Marvel is even going against it's own brand in the comic book industry by cancelling The Fantastic Four and by killing off Wolverine.  It's also been reported that writers are not allowed to create new X-Men characters because if they do, then they fall under 20th Century Fox's ownership when it comes to movies.

So how do you do a crossover and team-up without actually doing a crossover?  Easy.  You create a knockoff character, give him a name that rhymes with the character that you are mimicking, and have someone who used to write for that character write for the new one.  Don't believe me?  Meet "Red Tool," a.k.a. Wayne Wilkins (see what they did there?) and is written by Jimmy Palmoitti who has done work on the Deadpool comics in the past.  Without giving too much away about the storyline, Red Tool teams up with Harley Quinn as they take on a zombie outbreak in Coney Island when people become infected after eating hotdogs that have been tainted with alien flesh.  The writing is incredible and the two characters compliment one another extremely well...well, as well as a homicidal maniac and a foul-mouthed "meta murderer" can compliment one another.

In short, if you haven't picked up Harley Quinn: Rebirth #1 you need to go out and do it right now.  It's one of the more fun comics that I have read in a while, and you won't be disappointed.  All of the tongue-in-cheek references to Deadpool and Red Tool's interaction with Harley Quinn had me laughing out loud at parts.  In short?  Go buy it!

If you've already picked it up and have read it, let me know what you thought about it in the comments section down below, but if you do, try to leave out any spoilers for the people that haven't read it yet.
