Duncan Jones To Bring "Mute" To The Silver Screen

mute movie comic book duncan jones Warcraft Director Duncan Jones Talks Blade Runner Inspired Mute

Duncan Jones is quickly becoming a very popular director.  His career as a director started off with a movie short called Whistle back in 2002.  His first full length feature (which he also wrote) was Moon in 2009.  The science fiction drama/thriller movie quickly became a cult classic.  Next, in 2011, he gave us Source Code.  Later this year he will debut Warcraft, based on the widely popular online game World of Warcraft.  It this guy is on a role.  So what's next Duncan Jones?

His next project will be a film called Mute.  While little is known about the project, we can guess at what the setting will be like by taking a look at the illustrations from the Dark Horse graphic novel that Jones and Glenn Fabry both worked on.  As you can see from the picture above (which came from the graphic novel) it looks to take place in a dystopian world that looks similar to the world of Blade Runner.  That comparison isn't just speculation, either.  Here's what Jones had to say about the world of Mute:

“It’s a thriller with a very weird tone. It goes very dark, then it also goes very darkly funny. It’s science-fiction urban, so it certainly owes some of its influence to Blade Runner.”

He also went on to say that he'd also been influenced by other movies, and regarded the film as both "The Casablanca of the future," and "Paul Schrader's Hardcore meets Robert Altman's MASH."  The film should follow a mute man named Leo, who is searching for someone in twenty-first century Berlin.  Screenrant, which is the site that I first read about this movie, thinks that this film is the perfect choice as Jones' next project because it will allow him to "potentially clear his head following the undoubted pressures of working on a major motion picture as large as Warcraft.

Let me know if this is something that you'd be interested in seeing.  If it is, I'll continue to give you updates on it as soon as they come out.
