Are We Going To Get A "Dark Phoenix" Movie Better Than X-Men: THe Last Stand?

Dark-Phoenix-rumor

I think it's safe to say that X-Men: The Last Stand was the worst movie in the franchise.  i don't think that anyone can argue otherwise.  Why it was the highest grossing X-Men film until Deadpool came along I have no idea.  The Last Stand's take on the Dark Phoenix was not worthy of the incredible storyline that Marvel gave us back in 1980, and true X-Men fans left the movie disappointed.  Luckily, after X-Men: First Class came out, it reignited peoples interest in the team of mutants and we are soon going to be able to see the ninth film in the movie franchise (not including Deadpool) when X-Men: Apocalypse later this year.  But what can we expect after that movie comes out?

We already know that 20th Century Fox is planning on making a follow-up to Deadpool, one that will introduce us to Cable.  After that, it's been rumored that they will use Cable to launch the X-Force movies, something that they've been wanting to do for a long time.  But what about the X-Men?  Can we expect to see any more movies from them?  Jennifer Lawrence has already expressed her desire to keep playing Mystique, and Fox would be stupid to stop making movies with the Oscar winner.  So where do they go after Apocalypse?

Heroic Hollywood is reporting that they've heard from their studio sources that the next X-Men movie will be based on the Dark Phoenix saga.  How closely they stick to the actual comic book story remains to be seen, but they say that it's producers had said that they were at least interested in using elements from the story.  Apocalypse would be a great jumping off point for this storyline since we will be reintroduced to Jean Grey (a younger version of her from the original X-Men movies) who will be played by Sophie Turner.  We'll also be getting new versions of Storm and Cyclops in this movie, too.

If they do go this route, I don't expect it to follow the comic book storyline exactly.  Even though the X-Men cinematic universe deals with mutant powers that are extraordinary, I don't think that Fox is ready to introduce aliens into it yet, and in the Dark Phoenix comic book story the Shi'Ar Empire played a big part in it.  They may even use the Dark Phoenix from more recent X-Men comic book stories.  Who knows?

Let me know what your thoughts are on this latest revelation in the comments section down below.  X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016.
