Batman Becomes A Know It All

JUSTL Cv42 R1

In last week's Justice League #42, Batman became the God of Knowledge. You see what I did there with the title of this post? Hah!

So what happened?  And why should this be important to us, the reader?  Let's begin with the first question...

During this issue, Metron was separated from the Mobious Chair, which gives him the God of Knowledge powers, because of a "misunderstanding."  The chair was about to be Boom Tubed away into the hands of Darseid and the Anti-Monitor, two of the universe's most ancient and warring forces.  In order to keep the chair out of their hands, Batman leaps onto the chair himself, and is instantly subsumed by it, and he becomes the new God of Knowledge.

So now the second question...why should this be important to us, the reader?  Check this out!

Batman is the new God of Knowledge, so if you were him, what would be the one thing that you'd want to know the answer to?  Something that you've never been able to discover, and it's something you've been trying to find ever since picking up the mantle of the Bat?  The answer?

"What is the Joker's true identity?"

Unfortunately, we don't get to be let in on the little secret, but what ever it was, it not only shocked Batman, but he went into denial of whoever he is, and whatever the chair told him about the Joker's identity.

Even though I hope that DC never gives the Joker an origin story, or explains to us who he really is, they've been messing around with doing this for a little while now (check out Batman: Endgame).  In fact, DC has been messing around with a few things that shouldn't be touched.  For instance, Lois Lane revealed to the world that Clark Kent was really Superman.  In the Batman: Endgame universe, Bruce Wayne seems to be dead, along with the Joker, and now Jim Gordon is Batman.  These things may seem small and trivial, but they are things that shouldn't be touched, and now, well, DC went there.

Look, I understand that in order to stay relevant, you need to do certain things, or go to story lines that die-hard fans don't want you to touch, in order to keep sales up and grow your audience.  But why now?  With all of the buzz surrounding the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie coming out, shouldn't this be enough without having to potentially ruin the greatest mystery in the Batman universe?

I hope that Batman is the only one who will know the answer to the Joker's identity, and they continue to keep it a mystery from us.
