Wonder Woman Sequel To Take Place In The 80's

With the Wonder Woman movie still steamrolling along in the box office, reports on it's sequel are already making the rounds, and the main question about the sequel is, will it take place in the past again, or will it pick up after Justice League?  Now it seems like we have an answer.  Oh, if you haven't seen Wonder Woman yet, be warned...***SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE AHEAD!!!***

Still with me?  Okay, good!  Like the first Wonder Woman movie, the sequel will take place in the past, prior to the current DCEU timeline.  In fact, it will take place during the 80's, and from what we're hearing, it will put Diana Prince up against the forces of the former Soviet Union during the Cold War.  The same production team is on board for the sequel, and Geoff Johns is writing the script, with the help of Patty Jenkins.  Jenkins hasn't been officially signed to direct the sequel, but all indications point to her returning for the follow-up.  Someone else that might return for the sequel is Chris Pine, which brings about a couple of questions, but the main one is...how?

Near the end of the movie, Steve Trevor die in an explosion to save thousands of people's lives.  His death hit Wonder Woman hard and helped her in her fight against Ares.  If they were to bring him back, some are suggesting that he didn't really die in the explosion.  If this is the argument, he'd still be 90 years older than he was in the first movie, so that wouldn't really be a plausible scenario.  Plus, it would cheapen what everyone saw and felt (mostly Diana) from the first movie.  Others are suggesting that one of the gods or goddesses will bring Steve back from the dead for Wonder Woman.  I don't know why a god or goddess would do this for her, or what would bring it about, so I don't know if this is a plausible one either.  The third thing that I have heard is that Pine will play a descendent of Steve Trevor that looks just like him.  That could make for an interesting plot line in the sequel when Diana runs into him, but that still sounds like they're reaching.  Still, it might be the best scenario for bringing him back in the sequel that I've read.

It's still not 100% that Pine will be returning, but the chemistry that he and Gal Gadot had on the screen is hard to deny, so rumor or not, they should find a way to get the two to share the screen again.  Do you think that I'm wrong and that they should just leave the Trevor character alone and move on to something (or someone) else?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
