According To Kevin Feige, Miles Morales Is Apart Of The MCU

Okay, so I lied!  I went ahead a wrote up a post for today after all!  I just figured that with all of the hype out there for the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming movie that comes out in a few days, I'd do one more post that involves Spider-Man...or is it Spider-Men?

Kevin Feige has been making his rounds promoting the upcoming Spider-Man film, as he should, since this is the first Spider-Man movie that takes place in the MCU.  While going around and giving interviews, he said something curious to Screen Crush.  Here's what he had to say:

“All of those little things are just Easter eggs for fans until they’re something more than that. But anything that’s happened in the books is potential material for us. In the meantime, I think Miles is a big part of the animated movie that Sony’s making. But where we go … we definitely want you to go “He’s there. He’s there somewhere.”

So Kevin Feige Is saying that Miles Morales is a part of the MCU?  That's surprising to hear, since Sony is keeping all of their other Spider-Man characters in a different "universe" all together.  While there may be plans for them to merge at some point, that's not how it's moving forward right now.  It's hard to believe that Sony would give up, or at least share the rights, to one of Marvel Comics most popular characters that they own the rights to.  There was even talk that the original agreement that Marvel and Sony came up with only "rents" the character of Spider-Man to the MCU for several movies.  He first appeared in Captain America: Civil War, he's getting his own solo film this weekend with Homecoming, he's also set to appear in the next two Avengers movies, and then his sequel, which is said to begin right where the fourth Avengers movie leaves off.  After his sequel, it's rumored that their agreement ends, and everything goes back to Sony, unless they come up with another cooperation.  So does it make sense to you to hear Feige say that Morales is apart of the MCU?  If Peter Parker is going to return to Sony hands, why plan on Morales joining the MCU?  It's confusing.

It wouldn't be the first time that one of the two company heads has made a confusing statement regarding their movies.  Amy Pascal had said at one point that Sony's "Spider-Man shared universe" was actually apart of the MCU's Spider-Man's world, but walked back those statements later in the day to "clarify" what she really meant...after a confused Kevin Feige looked even more surprised than the people she was giving the interview to.  She quickly restated that Venom, Silver Sable and Black Cat are not a part of the MCU.  All I'm saying is don't be surprised if this gets walked back as well.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out this weekend, July 7, 2017.  The animated Spider-Man movie that will feature Miles Morales will hit theaters on December 14, 2018.
