Nightwatch May Be Appearing In Spider-Man: Homecoming

No, that isn't a picture of Spawn up above, it's the villain Nightwatch, and he's being rumored to appear in in Spider-Man: Homecoming, because they already don't have enough villains appearing in that movie already.  The reason behind this rumor is that Bleeding Cool is reporting that Sony employees have been "buying up any and all comic books that feature [Nightwatch]," which is something that they say "usually indicates that a character is planned for an upcoming movie and all the employees want to know everything they can about them, ahead of meetings, discussions, plans, and merchandising strategies."  While this might not seem like much to base this assumption on, rumors like this have appeared in the past after production companies have sought out comic book material on certain characters that end up making it on to the screen in some form or another.  This might just mean that Nightwatch will make a brief appearance, like Spidey taking him out in the first few minutes of the film, and it'll be it, but buying up all the source material on the guy that they can seems like overkill if he's only going to be making a brief appearance.  They may also be setting him up for the next Spider-Man film, and he'll only be making a brief appearance at the end to get people prepared for him in the future.  Who knows?

When I say, "Who knows?" regarding this film, I mean it.  Marvel and Sony still haven't sent out any press releases yet that tell us who all of the actors in the film are actually going to play.  A few have been confirmed, but for the most part, we don't know a majority of who the actors will be playing.  Sony and Marvel are playing this very close to the chest.

Nightwatch was created in 1993, when Dr. Kevin Trench witnessed a costumed man die in battle.  When Dr. Trench removed the man's mask, he discovered it was him from the future...kind of like a superhero version on Looper. even though he tells himself that he'll never wear the costume, that way avoiding his untimely death, he ends up putting it on and becomes Nightwatch.  Nightwatch made appearances across a few different titles, and even had his own short lived solo series.

So what do you think?  If this rumor turns out to be true, how excited are you to see him appear?  Are you excited to see him appear?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
