Now, before I get started, even though this is being reported by the New York Daily News, it should be considered more of a "rumor" than fact, because neither Disney or Lucasfilm has confirmed this...but it's being said that when they signed Alden Ehrenreich to play the role of a young Han Solo in the second of their "Anthology" films, it wasn't just for one movie, but three!
Yes, either this was their plan from the beginning, or they were so impressed by Ehrenreich's audition that they changed their original idea. Depending on whether or not this film does good in the theaters will probably determine if they decide to go this route or not. Here's what the New York Daily News' "inside source" had to say on this matter:
“There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters. They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies. They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.”
While not much is known about the storyline for the upcoming Han Solo film, it is being described as an origin story for the character that may or may not tell the story of how he meets and befriends Chewbacca. If the rumor of the trilogy is true, then the other movies might include Boba Fett, and how the two became such rivals. I'm just hoping that at least one of the films tell the story about how Han made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs!
So what do you think about the possibility of a Han Solo trilogy? Are you even interested in seeing it, now that Ehrenreich will be playing the role and not Harrison Ford? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
The Han Solo Anthology Story (no, that's not the official title, I just didn't know what else to call it) will be hitting theaters May 25, 2018.
