Aquaman Movie May Have Found It's Villain

Well, this one almost seems like a no-brainer, but The Wrap is reporting that the villain for the upcoming Aquaman solo film will be none other than Black Manta.  While Warner Bros. hasn't yet confirmed this fact yet, considering that he is Aquaman's arch nemesis, this seems like a pretty safe bet.

For the past 50 some-odd years, Black Manta has been Aquaman's main big baddie.  First introduced in 1967, Black Manta has gone through quite a few changes, both to his character and his backstory.  The most recent origin for the guy deals with the New 52 version of Black Manta.  In this one, Black Manta is the son of a man that was killed by Aquaman after a failed assassination attempt on his father.  This sets up Black Manta's hatred for Aquaman.

Since the studio hasn't yet confirmed Black Manta's involvement in the movie, we have no idea who they're going to try and get for the role.  In fact, there's not much known about this film at all.  The only thing we've been given as far as Jason Mamoa's Arthur Curry is a quick glance of him in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and from the trailer for the upcoming Justice League movie.  The latter is where he will make his formal big screen debut.

DC and Warner Bros. have been doing their best to portray Aquaman as a badass that deserves to be an equal to Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.  Thanks to the Superfriends cartoon, he's been widely joked about as someone who "talks to fish," a joke that they even included in the trailer for Justice League.  Director James Wan has even gone so far as to say that Aquaman is the Wolverine of the DC universe.  That may be taking things a little too far, but they have been doing a good job of changing the persona of the guy to someone that people want to read about in comic books.

If you're still on the fence as to whether or not you want to see this movie, don't worry.  You still have two years to decide if it's something that you want to see.  It doesn't come out until July 27, 2018.  You'll also be able to see if you like the guy when Justice League comes out on November 17, 2017, so you still have plenty of time to make up your mind.  And, as always, if you have anything to add to this, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section down below.
