It's Worse Than We Thought For Star Wars: Rogue One

So the other day I talked to you all about how Star Wars: Rogue One was going to be doing some reshoots soon, and even though it sounded kind of bad, it didn't sound like things were all that terrible.  In fact, Disney came out after the reshoots were reported on and said that it wasn't that big of a deal, they were just going to be shooting some additional scenes that will feature surprise cameos.  But now we know that things are a lot worse than Disney was letting on.

A number of different websites are reporting that it's not just shots involving special cameos, but it's 40% of the movie that needs to be reshot!!!!  This is not looking good for the new film.  When you need to redo 40% of a "completed movie," you've got some serious problems on your hands.  Disney has brought back Christopher McQuarrie to help with the rewrites, since his work on the script had "saved the story" in the first place.  One of the problems that Disney had after watching an early screening of the film was that it felt too much like a war movie, and it didn't feel consistent with the tone that JJ Abrams gave viewers with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  This might have been what Gareth Edwards (the movie's director) and Disney had been fighting about.  Edwards may have wanted more of a "war movie" to set it apart from the other films in the franchise, and Disney probably wanted a clone of The Force Awakens since it made so much money.  Either way, this ain't good.

Considering that it's now June and the movie is supposed to be coming out December 16 at the end of this year, they are going to have to move pretty fast to make sure that they are able to make it's release date.  And a rushed film doesn't make me feel any better about this movie.  I'm still going to go see it, but my expectations for the movie are falling every time I read something new about this film.  How do you all feel about this news?  Has it affected your views on whether or not you want to go see it?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below.

    1. I thought that "war movie" was a compliment! I love Patton, The Diety Dozen, Band of Brothers, and Saving Private Ryan. Heck, "A New Hope's" space battles were BASED off of war movie footage! I guess Disney's just crazy...

    2. That was supposed to be "Dirty Dozen."

  2. Agree. I think it would be good for the franchise. If they try for the "best of both worlds" then it will be a lesser movie over all.
