Talk Picks Up For Spaceballs 2

So last week I told you that Tom Cruise confirmed that a sequel to Top Gun is happening, and now there's talk that another fan favorite might be getting a sequel...Spaceballs.  Mel Brooks, the legendary film maker that has given us some of the best and funniest movies ever to be made, recently attended a screening of the 1974 classic Young Frankenstein and after the showing he stuck around for a short Q & A.  While answering questions, someone asked him about the prospect of a Spaceballs sequel getting made.  Brooks replied:

“Well, you know, I’m doing it. MGM is slightly interested in doing it because of the new Star Wars…They think maybe, so we’re talking.

The interest in Star Wars is due to the success of The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.  Talk had been done in the late 90's for a Spaceballs sequel when The Phantom Menace was released, but I imagine that due to the lackluster performance that the three prequels made, the talk was quickly ended.

If a sequel does in fact get made, it may have a few of the original characters returning, but considering that a few of the original stars have passed (most notably John Candy) and that Rick Moranis has retired from acting and may not return, we might be given a movie with a whole new cast of characters.  Since the movie is in the early stages of being created, there is no news on when it will be released, but as soon as I find out, I'll let you all know.
