Stay strong, Spider-Man fans! There are still some negotiations going on between Sony and Marvel (well, "Disney" to be specific) to keep our favorite Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in the MCU. Here's what's reported to be going on...
To start with, these rumors are coming from the same sources that told us that She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel were coming to Disney+ before the announcement of their inclusion into the MCU at D23, so they have a little weight to them. It's being reported that Sony has a couple of "stipulations" before agreeing to allow Spider-Man back into the MCU. They are that they want Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man to appear in Venom 2 & 3, and they want certain MCU characters to appear in their movies, primarily Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson as Captain America.
The first stipulation shouldn't be that surprising, it was reported that Kevin Feige helped with the final editing of the movie Venom because the original final cut was kind of all over the place, so he already has a dog in that race. The second stipulation shouldn't be an issue, but might be, depending on how that want to movie Mackie's character forward. Having Nick Fury in the movie can't be that big of a deal, considering he's already appearing in a Spider-Man film, Far From Home. The real thorn in this would fall directly on Mackie as the new Captain America. The reason being is Mackie himself has said that his Sam Wilson won't be Captain America, and the upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier kind of confirm this.
So where does this leave their agreement, or the lack there of? The same place that it was before you started reading this post, just now you might have a little more hope. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Sony realizes that they don't have a franchise with out Marvel.
