FINALLY! An Actual DETECTIVE Story For A Batman Movie!
So I'm starting to come around to Robert Patterson playing the Dark Knight, and unlike his costar from the Twilight movies, he can actually act. I know that they haven't even started filming this movie yet, heck, their still writing the damn thing, but there are some details that are coming out that make me fairly optimistic about this new Batman movie.
The new plot details that were leaked say that the movie is focused around a series of murders that the caped crusader is investigating. I love this detail, because Bruce Wayne is supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and we really haven't been given a detective movie for the Batman. The movie is being written and directed by Matt Reeves, who took over these roles after Ben Affleck stepped down. This direction Reeves is taking the movie has been described as the following:
"The Batman will explore a detective case - when people start dying in strange ways Batman must go deep into the dark world of Gotham to find clues and solve the mystery/conspiracy connected to Gotham City's history and criminals.
In the film all of Batman Rogues Gallery are already out there and active similar to the comics and animated shows/movies. The film will have multiple villains as they are all suspects/"
While we know that the Rogues Gallery has been established in Gotham City for this movie, Batman himself is a relative newcomer to night. The Rumored Rogues are to be Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Two-Face, Mad Hatter, and Firefly, with the Penguin being the main focus. While no one has been cast in these roles yet, the name "Andy Serkis" keeps popping up. It's also rumored that Vanessa Kirby is being eyed to play Catwoman.
Reeves is getting his inspiration for this movie from the comic book Long Halloween which figured a list of other rogues as well. There was a recent article saying that they are looking at Rihanna to play Poison Ivy.
Like I said, I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this movie. It sounds like this was the general direction that Affleck was going to take the film, being a detective mystery, so I am glad that this is still their plan going forward. The movie is scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
