Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! This is a post that deals with the inner workings and rumors of the fanboy universe, and sometimes I'm lucky enough to get the King Nerd himself, Kevin Smith, to throw his two sense in on a particular subject. Now, he doesn't talk to me directly (why won't you call Kevin?) but if you listen to his Smodcasts, you probably have a good idea of what is going on in the world of comics, movies, and television. Before I go over what he's about to talk about, there was a rumor going around that Nathan Fillion is going to appear in the upcoming Suicide Squad 2 movie. Okay, now here's what he has to say about it:
"So, he's gonna be in Suicide Squad? Who do you think he could be playing? Oh my God, I don't know s***, but let's just play around because it's fun. Suicide Squad, they're f****** around with it, it's set in the DC Universe. Ain't nobody married to any more continuity. This guy's Batman and that ain't Ben Acfleck, and this guy's the Joker, but that ain't that perosin. What if Nathan Fillion is playing Batman? That would be genius casting."
He went on to say this about Nathan Fillion possibly playing Green Lantern:
"You might be onto something because based on a little information that I know from an undetermined source, that would play. Wow, I hadn't even thought about that."
Now Nathan Fillion is not a stranger to the DC Universe. He has voiced Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in a number of WB animated movies, and does an AMAZAING job doing it. With all of the voice actors coming out this year to play the characters that they have lent their voices to, why not hire Fillion as Green Lantern? I mean, Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy are going to be playing the Joker and the Batman respectively in the upcoming CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths, so why not give Fillion the shot at playing his voice over character?
Smith is right on the other front, the DCEU does not have any continuity flowing through it right now. The only true staples in the DCEU are Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa playing Wonder Woman and Aquaman respectively. All of the other roles (as far as we know) are going to other actors. Not all of them, but a majority of them are. The two major roles of Batman and Superman are being recast (see previous posts). This will prove a problem for WB and DC if they want to compete with Marvel. To be honest, I don't see this happening anytime soon.
So what do you think about Nathan Fillion possibly joining the DCEU? Do you think that they will intoduce Green Lantern into the DCEU in the upcoming Suicide Squad? Let me know your thougnts in the section below, to leave a comment on my Facebook page.
