There is a possible leak of the opening scenes from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that was revealed by Making Star Wars. If you don't want to know how it will possibly begin, stop reading. If you do want to know, just be warned...***POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!!***
It sounds like it's a mix of a flashback and the present. It begins with a scene of Luke training Leia to become a Jedi. This matches up with a leak from a Reddit user that said the same thing, but elaborated a bit more by saying that it was the last part of her training session which involved a lightsaber battle between Leia and Luke, but she wasn’t able to complete her training because she's pregnant with her son Ben.
After this scene it moves forward to the present and Leia is trying to train Rey. If you look at the picture above, it's from the trailer. A lot of people thought that Rey was throwing her lightsaber at a tree during her training, but if you look close, there is a training droid that she is sparring against, like Luke did in the Millennium Falcon back in A New Hope. The trailer made it look like she launched her lightsaber at a tree and then caught it at the same time that she catches a red ribbon. In the books, a red ribbon signified the final level of skill at a certain task. So does this mean that Rey is a Jedi? She is very strong in the Force and could possibly be able to work her way through the different skills to be considered one. There also aren't any Jedi left, so she's probably the closest thing to one in the galaxy, so who cares?
The issue is that Rey seemed to be drawn to the Dark Side in The Last Jedi, so it will be fun to watch how this story unfolds. JJ Abrams said that the story from The Last Jedi didn't interfere with the story he wanted to tell at all, so expect the last movie to be embraced by him instead of worked around.
Abrams also said that Carrie Fisher will play an important role in the movie, and her daughter Billie Lourd will be seen playing along side her as Resistance officer Lieutenant Connix, thanks to the help of CGI. It sounds like they are using scenes that were filmed from the last movie and incorporating them into this one. Abrams had this to say about the scenes with Lourd and Fisher:
"And so, there are moments where they're talking; there are moments where they are touching. There are moments in this movie where Carrie is there, and I really do feel there is an element of the uncanny, spiritual, you know, classic Carrie, that it would have happened this way, because somehow it worked. And I never thought it would."
It should also be noted that it's possible that Rey's training could be completed by Luke as well. Remember in Revenge of the Sith when Yoda is talking to Obi Wan, he prepares him for further training from his former master. "In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you. An old friend has learned the path to immortality. One who has returned from the netherworld of the Force, your old master." To which Obi Wan replies, "Qui-on," and Yoda says, "How to commune with him, I will teach you."
Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to this movie and all of the possibilities that it holds. Am I the only one? Duh. Of course not, but I want to hear from you all.
