Problems Hitting Han Solo Spinoff Movie

When last year's Rogue One was in production, there was a lot of worry about the film on the part of Star Wars fans because of the news that they were reshooting nearly 40% of the movie.  Whenever something like that happens, it tends to be bad news for the film.  Luckily for everyone who went and saw it, it turned out to be a very good movie.  It was original, it was action-packed, and it's sequel had already been released nearly 40 years prior.  So all in all, things turned out good.  The thing is, though, it's director stayed with the project from beginning to end.  That's not going to be the case with upcoming Han Solo film.

A couple few days ago it was announced that the two directors that were filming the Han Solo film, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, had been fired.  The reason that the two were fired is said to be that the two directors had a different "vision" for their film than the one that Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan had envisioned.  Kennedy is the head of Lucasfilm for Disney and Kasdan is one of the writers for the movie.  Usually when there are differences in opinion on what direction a film should be taking, it's ironed out prior to the start of production.  The problem here is that they've been filming this feature for the last four months, and there's only three weeks left to finish the shots.  Now the film is going to have to film at record pace...and no director/directors have been announced to take Lord and Miller's place.

Some people are saying that the higher-ups may have been sticking their nose into the movie a little too much, but this rumor doesn't really hold water with me.  Kasdan can't be the problem.  He's been the writer for Star Wars ever since The Empire Strikes Back (not including Rogue One or the prequels) so he's someone that knows his Star Wars movies.  Kennedy has been apart of Lucasfilm for decades and knows her Star Wars movies and what sells just as well, if not more, than Kasdan.  Lord and Miller have a long list of television credits, and are probably best known for The LEGO Movie and 21  & 22 Jump Street.  Those movies don't exactly give me very much confidence as a resume for jumping into an important movie for the Star Wars universe like the Han Solo film.  Maybe they wanted to have "Everything Is Awesome" playing on the Millennium Falcon or something?

Bottom line...things aren't looking too good for the upcoming film.  I'll keep you all updated when more information becomes available.
