Last week, 20th Century Fox released the very first trailer for Logan, and now they are releasing more information about the movie. The young actress that is seen in the trailer, Dafne Keen, is in fact playing Laura Kinney, a.k.a. X-23. While not from the official Fox website, the Instagram account belonging to wponx released a head shot of Keen with the word "Laura" underneath it.
Like Harley Quinn in the DC comics, Laura Kinney got her start on the animated television show X-Men: Evolution, and also like Harley Quinn, her popularity caused Marvel to include her in their comic books and gave her a backstory. In the comic books, Laura Kinney was created from the DNA that had been obtained from Logan, at a Weapon X offshoot called The Facility. In the movie, however, it looks like she'll have been created at Mister Sinister's Essex Corporation, It's not unusual for a movie to take creative liberties in their story telling that differ from the ones from the comic books, and it looks like this will be the case here. Considering that it was being said that they were pulling inspiration from the comic book storyline Old Man Logan for this film, and they had to change quite a bit of it for the movie, it's not that surprising. In the comic books, Laura has come into her own as an X-Men, and has even taken over the mantle of Wolverine, after Marvel killed off Logan a few years back. This has led some to speculate that Hugh Jackman's character in the film might not make it out alive.
So have you all been able to watch the trailer? What did you think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below. Logan hits theaters March 3, 2017.
