That's an interesting question...what does happen when you take the psycho out of Harley Quinn? She wasn't always like this, you realize. She was once Harleen Quinzel, a successful psychiatrist that was tasked with helping the Joker while he was locked up in Arkham Asylum, but the more that she worked with him, the more she lost her own grip on reality. Now she's the lovable, murderous scamp that we've all come to know and adore...but what would happen if she had the chance to revert to Harleen again after being Harley for so long? This December, we are going to find out!
Don't worry, this won't be a permanent change, but it will make for an interesting story. The December release of Suicide Squad #8, which will be written by Rob Williams with art work by Jim Lee and Scott Williams, will have the Suicide Squad "manipulated" by general Zod's "Black Vault," which, as described in the article that I read, "turns all of the Squad's psyches inside out, making everyone but Harley into hyper, delusional bizarre-versions of themselves." Many thanks to Emily Gaudette for bringing us her article on this issue. Gaudette goes on to say that while everyone in the Squad goes super-crazy, Harley's reaction to the Black Vault has a different affect. Since Harley is already living as "the living embodiment of a mental break" when she is subjected to the Black Vault, it basically cleans out her like a heavy dose of anti-psychotics, and turns her back into Harleen.
The care-free and wild Harley that we have all come to know seems to be very happy with her psychotic break, so what will happen to her when she returns to her original "sanity?" Will this break her even further, or will realize that she misses being sane, or will she miss being the devil-may-care Harley and try to get back to that state of mind? We won't know until this December. If you are a fan of Harley Quinn, then Suicide Squad #8 is going to be a must buy!
