The Big Guy Is Finally Getting Some Respect From FOX

Colossus will have a major role in Fox's Deadpool movie

Colossus is one of the biggest and baddest X-Men ever to grace the pages of the comic book.  And he's HUGE!  I still have a comic from the 80's that shows him getting into a bar fight with the Juggernaut...and he holds his own!  So why has a badass like this been relegated to being a supporting character in the X-Men movies?  So far, his character has appeared in three of the films, but you wouldn't know it from the lack of screen time and dialogue that he's been given.  Now, all of that is about to change.

The first big change that we've all been privy to is the fact that they are going back to Colossus' true roots.  Meet Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin, the Russian mutant that can turn his body into nearly indestructible metal.  FOX even hired an actual Russian to play the part.  His name is Andre Tricoteux, who started out in the business as a stunt man.  Most importantly, he's actually built like Colossus!  This guy is enormous!  And from what it sounds like in the interviews that the cast have been giving, he's been given a pretty big role in the Deadpool film.  Here's what Tricoteux said about the role in his own words:

“The Colossus you’re going to see in Deadpool is very true to the original character in the comic book. [Director] Tim Miller had a really clear vision, and the Deadpool people had a really clear vision of what they wanted. They wanted Colossus to be very traditional to the original story...I think you're going to get to see more of who Colossus is.  Like I said, we kept him really traditional to the comic book.  So yes, I think people will get a better sense of who he is.  But I think there's still a lot more to be told about him.  Colossus has been around in the comics since the 70's, so I mean, I think you could do your own movie on him.  Yeah, you're going to get to see a little bit more of who he is and kind of his outlook on the world...I can't give too much away.  We kept him traditional to the comic books.  Actually, we kept it exactly like the comics, so you could be able to derive your own conclusion from that."

Sounds like somebody's angling for his own spin-off!

Deadpool is an important movie for both the title character and Colossus.  It will be undoing some of the greatest wrongs that have been done against Deadpool and Colossus in past movies, and is giving them both a chance at redemption.  Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
