Is Mace Windu Still Alive?

Is it possible that when Obi-Wan and Yoda were talking during The Empire Strikes Back and Obi-Wan says, "That boy is our last hope," and Yoda replies, "No, there is another," that they weren't talking about Leia at all, but Mace Windu?  If it was up to the actor who played him on the silver screen, it would.

Samuel L. Jackson recently sat down with EW for an interview and during it, he gave his impression on what really happened to the purple-lightsaber wielding Jedi Master after his fight with Darth Sidious and Anakin Skywalker

"Of course he is [still alive]! Jedi can fall from amazing distances.  And there's a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?"

He even went so far as to say that he'd talked to George Lucas about Mace Windu surviving, and Lucas' response?

"George is like, 'I'm okay with that.  You can be alive.'"

Jackson went on to say that he thought that the Jedi Master went into hiding and was laying low on some isolated planet, kind of like Obi-Wan and Yoda had done.  This doesn't seem too far fetched.  And why not have him survive?  Even though George Lucas gave up all rights to Star Wars and doesn't have a say in anything that Disney does with the property, that's not to say that Disney won't run with the idea.  Use Saw Gerrera as an example.  Gerrera was first introduced to fans on Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, which was in production before Disney purchased Lucasfilm.  Even though Disney started what they are calling the "Official Canon," by getting rid of stories from novels and comic books that had been published before the acquisition, they have kept some things part of their universe, like Saw Gerrera.  He will be making his big screen debut in this year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.  So does this mean that we'll see Jackson's Mace Windu making a come back at some point down the line?

If his character does make a return, I don't believe that it will be in the "Episode" movies.  Chances are he'll pop up in either Star Wars: Rebels like Darth Vader, Yoda, and Ahsoka Tano have, or in novelizations that take place in the "Official Canon."  He might, however, show up in one of the Anthology films at some point, though, so don't rule anything out.  Considering that these films can take place during any point in time, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we'll see Mace Windu again on the silver screen.

So what do you think?  Do you agree with Jackson on Windu surviving the lightsaber battle, or do you think his character is dead?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
