It's hard to walk away from something that you've spent most of your life doing, whether it's writing a popular children's book series, or starring in the movie version of that series. We've seen this with both J.K. Rowling recently. She's been involved in writing that movie prequels to her Harry Potter films, called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and has also written a script for a popular stage production titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 and 2. The stage production will be published at the end of July, but it will be as a script book, and not a novelization. Rowling also publishes updates on the world of Harry Potter through her webpage Pottermore. Even though when she completed the seventh book in the Harry Potter series, The Deathly Hallows, she said that would be the end of her Harry Potter stories, it seems that she can't seem to let herself let go of that world.
So if she were to write another Harry Potter novel, and it were optioned into a movie deal, would Radcliffe be open to reprising his role as The Boy Who Lived? In a recent interview with Radio Times, he was asked that exact question. Here's what he had to say:
"It would depend on the script. The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there! So I am saying, 'No,' for now but leaving room to backtrack in the future."
While this answer may not be what Potter fans were wanting to hear, it does give them hope for a possible movie in the future. It all depends on if Rowling writes another book, and right now she remains as non-committal to the idea as Radcliffe. Right now, fans can always go back and read the books that became so popular, and go back and watch the movies again, while hoping for more bits of news about their favorite character that she likes to post on Pottermore.
