Okay, go back seven years to 2010. Iron Man 2 is playing on the screen, and you're watching a little kid wearing an Iron Man mask standing up to one of the Hammer Drones and Iron Man flies in to save the day, and then says, "Nice work, kid." Then he flies away...
Jump back to the present. Ever since that scene and the inclusion of Spider-Man into the MCU, there has been a fan theory that the little kid in Iron Man 2 was actually a very young Peter Parker. Sounds insane, right? Maybe not. Tom Holland has been running the gambit of press interviews to promote the upcoming Spider-man: Homecoming, so it was just a matter of time before the "fan theory" question was asked. The surprising thing was that Holland answered it, and he gave a definitive answer. He was talking to The Huffington Post, and when they asked him if it was Peter Parker behind the Iron Man mask, Holland said, "It is." He went on:
“I can confirm that, that is Peter Parker. I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
Since Kevin Feige can be connected to the answer, you have to believe that it's true. Since the Expo in the movie was just a stone's throw away from Parker's stomping grounds of Queens, and the kids age in Iron Man 2 compared to the age Parker is in Homecoming, it all comes together quite nicely. Why they bothered at all with making this canon is beyond me, but they have, and I thought that it was interesting enough to let you know about it.
Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out next weekend, July 7, 2017.
