Tom Hiddleston Reportedly In Talks To Play Next James Bond
Few things are a guarantee in life...death, taxes, and there will always be an actor in the wings to play James Bond. It's now being reported that our favorite villain Loki is in talks to take over that exact role from Daniel Craig. Yes, it's being said that Tom Hiddleston is in talks to take on the role as the next 007. What more could you want from a James Bond? One, he's a fantastic actor who's able to do both dramatic roles and comedy, and two, he wants the role. Now, like I said, he's in talks with the studio to take over the role, but it hasn't been given to him just yet. We don't even know if the role is up for grabs yet. So there's a couple of ways you could look at this information, at least, according the BirthMoviesDeath there are. Here's what Phil Nobile Jr. (the website's James Bond go-to guy) had to say about this bit of news.
The first reason that this is happening is that Daniel Craig has decided not to reprise his role as the famous secret agent. It's listed on IMDB that he's going to star in the 25th movie featuring James Bond (no date for it's release has been set), but what if he's just getting tired of being type cast? Okay, Craig will never have to worry about that, he's done too many movies and has played too many different kinds of characters for that to happen, but he might just be getting tired of the role. This next movie might just be his last go around as 007, so they're wanting to plan ahead for James Bond 26. The second reason that they are talking to Hiddleston's people is that they are trying to give themselves leverage the next time they go to negotiations with Craig's people when discussing James Bond 26. It wouldn't be the first time that this has happened, and after playing the role for the last four movies (five, including James Bond 25) Craig will be in a position to demand more money. The studio may not want to give him what he's worth. Plus, changing the actor who plays James Bond every decade or so keeps the character fresh.
Whether or not this happens, this isn't the only thing that's changing with the Bond franchise. Sam Mendes has decided to step away from directing the next installment of the Bond films. Mendes directed the last two movies in the franchise (Skyfall and Spectre) and has now decided to let someone else take over the director's chair. So who will be the next director for Bond 25? It's being reported that (although not officially confirmed) that Susanne Bier will be taking over that job. While she hasn't helmed a big-budget film yet, she was the director from AMC's The Night Manager, which is itself an espionage-based drama. Not only that, but one of it's stars was Tom Hiddleston himself! If they were to replace Craig with someone, Hiddleston would be the ideal choice for the new director to work with.
So what do you think? Is Craig in or out, and if he's out, then who would you like to see take over the role as James Bond? Do you think that Tom Hiddleston would make a good Bond? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
