New Green Lantern Movie Will Focus On The Green Lantern Corps
Here's an interesting turn of events! Well, kind of. I reported on the rumors that the next Green Lantern movie was actually going to focus on three of the Earth-bound Lanterns: Hal Jordan, John Stewert, and Guy Gardner.
This past weekend at San Diego Comic Con, Warner Brothers announced over at their Hall H panel that the title for the next Green Lantern movie was going to be Green Lantern Corps. This isn't very surprising, seeing as focusing on a number of Green Lanterns would help distance themselves from the catastrophe that was Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern movie. If you're not familiar with the Green Lanterns (then you've been living under a rock!), here's what DC Comics Wiki says about the group:
"The Green Lantern Corps are an intergalactic police force that patrols the 3600 sectors of the universe. The organization was founded and, for several billion years, led by the Guardians of the Universe. After the events of Rise of the Third Army and the Wrath of the First Lantern, leadership of the corps passed to the Templar Guardians and Hal Jordan. The Green Lantern Corps were created by John Broome and Gil Kane, first appearing in Showcase #22."
There have been rumors that Chris Pine is being courted to play Hal Jordan, but there was no announcement as to whether he has accepted or not. There's also no word on how exactly the new Green Lanterns will fit into the Justice League movies. The Justice League movies are expected for release in 2017, and 2019. The Green Lantern Corps movie is slated for release on June 19, 2020.
