Blade Runner 2 Has Found Its Female Lead

We're finally getting the Blade Runner sequel that we've been promised for so long...and a little sooner than was first revealed.  Warner Bros. recently announced that they are moving the film's release date up a few months to October 6, 2017.  Filming is set to begin later this year, although it seems that they are still in the process of adding people to the cast.

We already know that Harrison Ford will be returning to the sequel, reprising his role as Rick Deckard, but we've also learned that Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista have signed on for the film.  Now we can add one more name to that list.  Ana de Armas will be the movie's new female lead opposite Ford and Gosling.  There's no word on what her role in the film will be, there were reports that there was going to be a female protagonist in the film, but that could've been four or five rewrites ago.  The script has been kept under wraps, and nothing about the story has made it's way out onto spoiler sites yet, so your guess is as good as anyone elses.

Ana de Armas has been one busy actress.  Most widely known for the movie Knock Knock where she starred opposite Keanu Reeves, she will also be appearing in the movie War Dogs with Jonah Hill and Miles Teller.  That comes out August 19.  Then, a week later, she'll be appearing in Hands of Stone with Robert de Niro and Egar Ramirez.  That one comes out August 26.  Starting this July, she'll begin filming Blade Runner 2.  Looks like there's no slowing this one down!

Since filming does start filming this July, I'm sure we'll start getting reports on what the plot of the story will be.  As soon as I hear anything, I'll make sure to let you know.  The one thing I'm most curious about is if they make Deckard a replicant in this film (as we've been told that he was one in the original, although it was never addressed in the film) or if they are going to make him a human.  If he is a replicant, how has he survived for so long?  If you have any thoughts on this, feel free to let me know what they are in the comments section down below.
