I was working yesterday, and early in the day I received an alert from one of my friends (she's @inkeater on Twitter and she also has a YouTube channel under the same name. Make sure you check it out and follow her!) telling me that it had just been announced that Ready Player One, the movie that is being adapted from the book of the same name, finally received a release date! This is pretty big news, because Steven Spielberg is set direct the flick, and he has a habit of pulling out of projects that he's shown interest in before they get going. With a release date set, this means that things are moving forward!
Ready Player One is a novel that was written by Ernest Cline back in 2011, and it follows a teenager hunting for an "Easter Egg" in a virtual reality world that was created by a man who recently passed. The person who finds this Easter Egg inherits his entire company and fortune. The one catch? Every clue and every challenge deals with pop references from the 80's!
The book has garnered a huge legion of fans (myself and Inkeater at the top of the list!) and when it was announced that Steven Spielberg was going to direct the movie version, excitement among fans hit an all time high! Will he be able to capture the essence of the film though? Hey, it's Steven freakin' Spielberg!
The release date for Ready Player One is December 15, 2017!
