Kraven Is Rumored For Spider-Man Reboot
Things are quickly coming together and moving forward for our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man! An actor has been cast to play Peter Parker's alter ego (Tom Holland), He's already shot his debut scene that will introduce him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), he already has a movie scheduled for release in 2017, and now he may have his next archenemy for the film!
According to Heroic Hollywood, the next villain to grace the silver screen opposite the web-slinger will be none other than Kraven the Hunter! This works on so many levels, if the rumor turns out to be true, this will be the perfect adversary for Spider-Man's "first" film. Why is that, you ask? It's because of who he is, and what he brings to the story. Let me explain...
The most recent Spider-Man films that were released tried to give us fight scenes that were of epic scale, where the city was in danger, as well as the Wall Crawler. Bringing in Kraven will give us a more personal battle of wits (as well as the danger of being hunted), instead of buildings collapsing and the city being destroyed. We already get that in the MCU with the Avengers. Each of their two movies have featured battles of such epic scale, that the entire planet was in danger of being destroyed. On the opposite side of things, the MCU has also given us Daredevil, whos story takes place in a small portion of the city, Hell's Kitchen, and whos battles were confined to that area. Spider-Man needs to find that happy medium in between these two scales and carve out his own territory.
Kraven is also an incredible tracker. If he comes to the city to take down Spider-Man, what will he find out about Peter Parker in the process? Will his family and friends be at risk? Will he track him to his high school possibly putting all of his classmates at risk? This will be more of a one on one type of battle, as opposed to consorted effort of two or more big baddies trying to take him out with pure brute strength and force.
I think that if they go this route, it will set their Spider-Man movie apart from all of the other ones...which is something they'll want to do. Sony was smart to ask for the help of Marvel, and I'm starting to see that this partnership is going to be one for the ages!
The Spider-Man reboot is scheduled for release July 28, 2017.
