Constantine's Not Dead Yet
Fans of the Matt Ryan portrayal of John Constantine can rejoice! Well, maybe not rejoice, but they will be able to see the trench coat-clad demon hunter at least one more time. It was recently announced that Ryan will be making a guest appearance on Arrow this season. Here's what the CW has to say about the upcoming episode:
John Constantine is a weather worn exorcist and expert on the supernatural and the occult. He is a detective, magician, and a hunter of demons, and will provide critical support to Oliver (Stephen Amell) when arrows aren't enough.
Okay, I know that doesn't really tell you a lot about what his role is going to be on the shows fifth episode of season four, so I did a little digging and this is what I found out. I'm not really sure how Oliver and Constantine meet, it could be a recent introduction, or they could have met during the five years that Oliver was away. Regardless, Constantine is brought in to help with Sara Lance's resurrection from the Lazarus Pit. When Thea was brought back from the dead, she was only mostly dead (did you like how I threw in that Princess Bride line?) where Sara had been dead for, well, all through season three. Because she had been dead for so long, there are some consequences of using the pit on her, and it also creates some "unforeseen difficulties." Cue John Constantine. He's brought in because he is "uniquely suited" to help the team deal with these problems.
I know that some of you out there may be a little disappointed that they're going to be bringing magic into a show like Arrow, one that seems to be grounded more in the real world than in the supernatural, but with the introduction of the Flash last year, as well as the Lazarus Pit, it's already been done, so deal with it!
Right now, his appearance is only being billed as a one-shot deal, but look at all of the other one-shot characters that have appeared on the show, only to return in later episodes. If his appearance turns out to be something that the fans enjoy, Constantine may get new life for future episodes and maybe his series will get resurrected.
Here's hoping!
