I don't know why Tron: Legacy wasn't more well received than it was, I enjoyed the movie tremendously. This is why I'm excited to hear that filming on the third Tron film is set to begin October 5th in Vancouver. The film is supposed to pick up in real time after the conclusion of Tron: Legacy, meaning that five or six years have passed since Sam and Quorra escaped from the Grid. Garrett Hedlund has been semi-confirmed as returning to reprise his role, and Olivia Wilde is expected to return, as well.
With the movie picking up in real time, this is going to raise a lot of questions as to what's been happening to the two since returning to the real world. How does Quorra adjust to our reality? What's Sam been doing with his father's company? Is Flynn really dead? These are just the ones that come to mind right away.
It sounds like the movie is going to be more "Quorra-centric" this time around, and Joseph Kosinski (who will be directing the film) says that this film is going to be much darker than the last one. He's hoping to make this one "The Empire Strikes Back of the series." It's funny how a lot of directors use that movie as something that they want to replicate. Not the story, but it's popularity. Jesse Wigutow is writing the screenplay, and it's been rumored that Edward Dillinger Jr. (Cillian Murphy) will be the film's main antagonist, but this could change as the script progresses.
No release date has been set for this movie yet, but I will let you all know as soon as I hear something.
