New Ghostbusters Movie Getting Inspiration From The Walking Dead

The Ghostbusters Reboot Will Be 'Very Inspired' By The Walking Dead image

Everyone who's ever seen the original Ghostbusters can recite their favorite lines, from "He slimed me," to "Dogs and cats living together, it'll be anarchy!"  It was it's humor and comedy that endeared the movie to us, and it seemed that they were going to follow the same formula after announcing that the new cast would include Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.  So what's all of this talk about a scarier sequel?
Director Paul Feig was recently on The Walking Dead's followup program, The Talking Dead.  He was asked a question regarding the new Ghostbusters movie and zombies, and here's what he had to say:
"I will say, I was very inspired by the show.  What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it's always about gauntlet run.  And that's something, an element that I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot is having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural and all of that.  I really feed off of The Walking Dead."
This was kind of surprising to hear, considering that Feig's previous works include Freaks and Geeks, Bridesmaids, and The Heat.  Those movies don't exactly scream "horror film" to anyone.  I'm also pretty sure that Sony Pictures didn't hire him for his skills with horror and suspense.  Having said that, I'm thinking that Feig could do a great job of blending these two skills together.  His movies flow very smoothly and hardly jump around, and  his ability to show the story on the silver screen is top-notch.
It's way too soon to give this movie a thumbs up or thumbs down, but I am very optimistic that it will be a fun movie to watch.  The new Ghostbusters is scheduled for release July, 22, 2016.
