Looks like the USS Enterprise is going to be destroyed...again. This time, it looks to actually play a roll in the story. Check out the new trailer below:
Sorry, the only ones available were international trailers, so it was either this, or one that someone upload while filming their television screen. Let's break it down!
Like I said, it looks like the destruction of the USS Enterprise takes place, but it's kind of hard to determine if it's done by aliens or robots. It also looks like the crew has to take refuge on a nearby planet, where it seems they are all captured by it's inhabitants. At least, that's what it looks like from this picture from the trailer:
It also showed a whole lot of new aliens in the trailer, expanding the already incredible universe that has been built off of the beloved Gene Roddenberry's creation. One of the things that has made his show so popular has been the interaction between the Enterprise's crew. So far, we've only really seen interaction between Kirk and Bones, Kirk and Spock, Kirk and Scotty, and Spock and Uhura. One of the best parts of the original show, to me anyways, was the interaction between Spock and McCoy. We haven't seen much of that in the last two movies, but from what the trailer gave us, it looks like we may get to see these two finally get some screen time together!
With the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens it's been easy to forget about...well, basically every other movie, but this new Star Trek Beyond is an important film in the movie franchise. First of all, this will be the first movie that won't be directed by JJ Abrams. One part of the writing team behind this film is a long time fan of the show, Simon Pegg, and he's promising us a great story. Lastly, next year marks the 50th anniversary of the show, and Paramount is wanting to give fans something great to watch while celebrating. From what we've seen from the trailer, I think that they may have been able to deliver on that!
Star Trek Beyond hits theaters July 2016.
