Rogue One Trailer Released

So like they promised, Disney released the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story yesterday during "Good Morning America". You can check it out down below: 

Rogue One Trailer Comes Out Today

We are already into the four month of 2016, which means that there is only eight months to go before we get a new Star Wars movie debuting.  This one will be the first one that takes place outside of the continuing "Episode" movies.  While it still takes place in the same galaxy far, far away, it's jumping back to a point in time that's somewhere in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.  It's called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and it follows a group of Rebellion fighters tasked with stealing the plans for the Empire's new super weapon...the Death Star.

I know pretty much everybody that's reading this knows all of this already, but did you know that the first teaser trailer for this movie is going to be released later today?  This is a pretty big deal for Disney since they have a lot riding on this film.  After Disney purchased Lucasfilm for a little over $4 billion they were quick to announce that they'd be releasing Episode VII.  It had to be great and popular in order for them to start making their money back.  Luckily for Disney, it was hugely popular with audiences who (in my opinion) were just happy to see a movie that gave us the original characters again...and wasn't a prequel.

The problem that they had, though, was that each new chapter would be released every two years.  They needed to come up with a plan that would allow them to have a new Star Wars come out every year, in order to keep interest in the franchise going.  So they decided to introduce the Star Wars Anthology movies.  These would be films that take place in the same universe, but outside of the ongoing saga films.  These films would also allow them to try different things, without jeopardizing the Episode movies. For instance, Rogue One will be the first Star Wars movie that won't feature a John Williams score.  It also won't feature any Jedi.  It is also expected to be much darker than any of the Episode movies, and is being labeled as a heist film. 

Disney has already released a teaser for the teaser trailer (yes, we've now come to that point when it comes to marketing.  I know, sad) with the full teaser trailer coming out later this afternoon.  As you can see from the above picture, there are going to be new Stormtroopers (the rumored name for them are "Death Troopers," part of an elite group of Stormtroopers) as well as some of the classic spacecrafts like the AT-AT for the Imperials and the Snow Speeder for the Rebels.  However, the movie will primarily be following the Rebels X-Wing squadron Rogue Group.  After you get a chance to see the trailer, let me know your thoughts on it in the comments section below.

Real Life Holochess Game From Star Wars Being Developed

Any Star Wars fan that's worth their weight know the name Phil Tippett.  If you're not familiar with the guy, know that he's a two-time Academy Award winner for visual effects.  He's worked on Jurassic Park and the Star Wars movies.  His most memorable visual effect from A New Hope was the holochess board that Chewbacca and C3PO played together on.  Now, Tippett is trying to create an actual holochess board for people to play themselves.  Check out the video down below:

 

Pretty cool, huh?  From what it looks like, you have to wear some sort of eye wear that allows you to see the board on any flat surface that you want to play on.  Using different playing cards allows you pick and choose the different monsters that you want to play with.

Is Green Lantern Coming To The CW?

It was recently announced that Patrick J. Adams (one of the stars on Suits, which is about to have its final season) would be appearing in the season finale of Legends of Tomorrow.  The CW hasn't released what Adams role is going to be, but there is a lot of speculation out there that he might be playing the Green Lantern...just not the one that most of you are familiar with.

The CW has been teasing that Hal Jordan is a part of their "Arrow-verse" since the first season of Arrow.  Ferris Airlines, billboards, the mention of an ace test pilot, all of these things have either appeared or has been mentioned.  It's led a lot of people to believe that at some point Hal Jordan himself will show up.  The problem with this is that Warner Bros. won't let the writers and executive producers for the show actually use him.  They want to keep Jordan on the big screen and off the television shows.  But that's Hal Jordan...

The rumor that's going around is that Adams is going to be playing Alan Scott in the season finale of Legends of Tomorrow.  Scott was the Green Lantern during the Golden Age of comic books.  Created in 1940 by Martin Nodell and Bill Finger, Scott became the Green Lantern after encountering a mystical meteor.  He could fly, time travel, create things out of thin air, things like that.  He was not part of the Green Lantern Corps. Hal Jordan is, but he did have his share of scrapes with evil villains.  One of them?  Vandal Savage.  See how this all ties together with Legends?

There's another rumor out there that says that the CW is considering a Green Lantern television show featuring Adams as Alan Scott, and with the show Suits coming to an end, that would free Adams up for a new project.  The question now is, during what time period would the show take place?  Scott's Green Lantern lived through the 40's, and with the show Legends of Tomorrow dealing with time travel, are they going to go back to the 40's and encounter Scott there?  Or are they going to bring him into the current time period and make him more modern?

This is all just speculation, since nothing has been announced as far as what role Adams is going to have on the season finale, but it's fun to think about.  What are your thoughts on the whole thing?  Do you want to see a Green Lantern television show?  Would you watch it if it featured Scott instead of Jordan?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Guardians of the Galaxy? Meet The Avengers.

Well...maybe not.  I don't know.  Heck, I don't even think James Gunn knows at this point, but considering the epic scale that this two-parter is going to be, I wouldn't be surprised if this happens.  And maybe Gunn isn't going to be surprised, either.  Gunn likes to take to social media to interact with fans of the movie Guardians of the Galaxy.  In fact, the above picture was from a scene that was cut that he shared on Facebook, which he titled, "Groot's Last Supper."  If you need me to explain why it's called this, you need to go visit an art museum or do a little reading.  Gunn cut the scene because he said that it was slow, and didn't work well with the movie as a whole.

While fielding questions on Facebook, one fan asked him why none of the characters from Guardians of the Galaxy were going to appear in Captain America: Civil War.  I know.  A pretty stupid question, but Gunn answered it without any sarcasm or mockery.  His simple answer was, "Because they are currently in a different galaxy."  Not much to learn from that answer, right?  Or is there?

This is probably grasping at straws a little bit, but let's look at his answer.  He said that they are "currently" in a different galaxy.  Does that mean that at some point they will travel back to Terra (a.k.a. Earth) and join the rest of the Avengers?  It would make sense, with the Avengers: Infinity Wars coming out in a couple of years.  Disney and Marvel have promised the biggest Avengers movie ever with it's release, and have hinted at bringing all of their movie properties together for one...okay, "two" action packed movies.  One would assume that this would include the characters from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Gunn was also recently asked if he would be returning for a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but kind of shrugged off the question.  He said that he was only focusing on giving us the best possible sequel ever, and wasn't really thinking beyond this point.  He did say that he wasn't sure if he wanted to do a third film or decide to do something else, but whatever he decides to do, I'm sure that it will be amazing.

Suicide Squad Trailer Resonates With Fans

Warner Bros. and DC's Suicide Squad is going to be a turning point for the DCEU, whether it's intentional or not.  What do I mean?  Well, it's going to be a more upbeat movie than the Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  And they're not doing this because of the "dark tone" from these two movies, but because of the amazing response that the trailer for Suicide Squad got that had Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody playing in the background.  It was peppered with jokes from the movie, and fans loved it.  The problem was that they put every joke from the movie into that trailer.  So how do you fix that?  You go back for reshoots.

According to David Faraci from birthmoviesdeath.com, an unnamed source reported to him that after the release of the trailer and the excitement that it produced with people, Warner Bros. requested reshoots for the film that would alter the tone of the film and giving the fans what Warner Bros. feels they want from the movie.  Reshoots for a film are not uncommon, they happen all of the time.  Sometimes that spells early trouble for the film (Fantastic Four reboot) but in this case it's good news.  Injecting more humor into the film, and at the same time the DCEU, will help take some of the criticism off of them from people who don't like the dark and brooding tones of their DCEU films.  I know that they want to separate themselves from Marvel's movies, but going dark doesn't separate you from them.  It's your characters and storytelling that should separate you from the other superhero films.  Give us a good story and we will show up.  But you still have to be true to the character when telling that story.

Even though the name Suicide Squad doesn't really sound like a light-hearted title (I mean, it's got "suicide" in the title, right?), the comics and even the animated feature that WB Animation put out always had a hint of comedy in them.  Because that's who the characters are.  They joked and killed and did their job in the hopes that they wouldn't die, and maybe even escape or get released earlier than they would have before.  They're a fun group to follow, as messed up as they are.  I think that Warner Bros. has finally figured that out.
